Computer problem

I need some help. My computer is acting VERRRRY slow. I've suddenly been getting pop ups the last couple days and my computer is grinding when it shouldn't be. I've had several pop ups trying to get me to buy a disc cleanup program but as a student teacher...I is broke.

Soooo...can anyone help me out with getting my comp back up speedier? I'm running a cable modem if that is needful info from AT&T/SW Bell.

Also, my C drive is way overfull. How do I move some programs from C drive to my D drive (extra drive)?

Thanks!

Yeah computers with viruses usually have that program popup. you dont need to spend money. Download AVG Anti-Virus :

Scan and delete viruses.

Geez... how much porn do you dl??

Lol, my pc was messed up recently because of viruses i guess. So I took all my info out and had it reformated, so its like new. Only prob is I didnt save Itunes properly...so I lost like 1200 songs that I've been trying to get back :/ (I have like 400 now *lone tear*)

yeah, dont reformat unless this program doesnt work, but since this is a new problem of yours, it should only be 1-2 viruses which the program can easily take care of. Ive only had one virus on my computer, and 0 after ive downloaded that program.

And sorry, dont know anything about the hard drives.

Sounds like AdWare or SpyWare to me.
Just like lilsarry said, do a virus scan. But I'd go one step further and do a Adware and spyware scan too, just google for it.
Also, defragment your master drive, sometimes that can help root out problems.

if you HD is full, that will cause it to grind too. Or, if you just have too many programs running at startup (lower right-hand corner ... if you have more than 5 or 6, then you have too many).

Moving programs over to D is pretty tough ... however, moving your regular files over is easy ... in fact, if you go on your desktop and right-click on "My Documents", select "properties" and then "move", you can move your whole My Documents to D seemlessly ... all your programs and data should be put on D and leave C to windows.

The only way to move programs (without buying some tool from Norton) is to unsinstall and then re-install onto D.

If you want to spend the money I recommend getting spy sweeper, it sounds as if you got some bad downloaded into your system. Spy Sweeper is a great program that cleans everything out for you and helps block it from coming in in the first place. If not wanting to pay, then you can still download it and it will tell you where everything is and you can just delete it yourself.

You can also trying restoring to an earlier date as well. It might help rid you of some of it.

Another thing you can do is select Ctr-alt-delete (this pulls up your task manager) and google your tasks that are running. It will tell you what is good and what is bad and usually how to get rid of the bad ones.

I agree with all the others.. Its either a virus thats active, or spyware. No need to reformate.. I usually do it every year just to start fresh. Most commonly known spyware will come in porn, or anything else you download thats not music. AVG is not a bad program.. but if you use COMCAST Mcafee anti virus comes free.... and IMO its been more helpful and better than Norton Pro when I had that. Do a disk defrag as well. I have 2 hard drives.. one to use for what I need daily.. and the other for storage movies, music, programs etc.

The programs that the FAQ in the link I provided are all free and all work, with help from the members on that site. The popups are due to spyware or malware, and it's just a good idea to move some files from your C to your D drive. The easiest method would be to drag and drop with two open windows; one being the C and one being the D.

Actually AVG is quite a nice free anti-virus program. I used it for a while before upgrading to the pay version. It's sounding like you have spyware or a virus that's eating up your processor power/hard drive speed - avg should help with removing it.

Evo..it's time to make copies of the files you want on your computer and just completely rebuild it from scratch. Many IT professionals will tell you flat out that Microsoft Windows machines just need to be rebuilt from time to time. Also, that is the only sure fire way to get rid of viruses, spyware, trojans, etc...so have fun :) It shouldn't take long to rebuild once you backup any files you want.

DONT USE AVG!!!

It just deletes the infected files, not clean them.

Use Avast! anti virus, also download ewido, and scan your PC.

Finally, defrag the hard drive and you should be fine!!
