Hi all, long time reader 1st time poster.

So, I am a coffee addict. Most defnitley.
I drink 7-10 cups/day on average and get the headaches by
and feel very sluggish and cranky:mad: if I havent had any by late morning.

So, before everyone jumps in with the "fatty Vanilla creamer and too much sugar" theories.. I generally use 1 teaspoon of sugar and 2%milk or skimPlus milk with my coffee and occasionally substitute a 1/2 sweet n'low instead of the sugar.

I goto the gym like 3-5 times/week depending on my willpower. I have drastically changed my diet in the last 2 years and eat lots of salad and vegetables, diet soda, tons of water, only eat red meat like once a week if that much. I eat fast food about 7 or eight times a year. I barely even drink alcohol anymore, I maybe go out one night a week to a bar.

The thing is I am still gaining weight!

I know I am getting older, I just turned 30. But, I feel like I eat much healthier than many of my friends and exercise more than some of them. The only thing that I really abuse is the coffee. Could I have ruined my metabolism or made it dependent on my caffeine intake?

I searched the web and there is a lot of pro-coffee information (propoganda?) out there. Plus caffeine is used in almost every weight-loss/fat-burner supplement on the market.

I did find this article, which seems pretty in-depth:

I know I defintley abuse it, but I always rationalized it as "There are a lot of much worse things in this world I could be abusing".

Do any of you have any experience with stopping coffee intake or had any similar experience with weight gain or loss?

Thanx!

I am a heavy coffe drinker like yourself. I never even considered it may stop me losing weight. I read the article you attached, interesting but a load of rubbish in my opinion. Maybe having a couple of chocolate biscuits with each cup would not help!

If you need to convince yourself it is not a problem you will have to stop drinking coffee for a couple of month. It is not that hard to do. Just stop drinking all at once, do the cold turkey for a day. I have done it a couple of times its easier than you think.
