Weight-Loss Cleanses?

Weight-Loss

I just had a general question -- it's not even that I am thinkin of pursuing it anytime soon.... just more or less curious about it. The workout regime I am on now simply wouldn't allow for it I don't think...:)

But Cleanses...

They seem to be kinda a popular thing these days -- I hear ppl mention them frequently enough but I don't know much about them

Are they good to do? Not even necessarily for weight loss purposes -- just in the general health purposes? And do they affect weigh gain/loss?

I just figure after all the years of crap I have put in my body maybe someday it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and clean some of it out (that is if there is any left, or how long it stays for... this is something I am not informed on)

Honest? It's as full of the stuff it claims to clean out. Our bodies are organic marvels. They clean us out just fine. It's a marketing ploy. It prays on the idea for people to lose '3-20' pounds with no work cause it is just something to flush out of your body. They even say too much of it is harmful. Think you need to be flushed out? Talk to your doctor.

Yeah - like I said I really didn't know much about them.
I figured it might be something like that - I have no idea how all
that stuff works so I thought I would ask!

Thanks for the info!

Waste of time and money. Your body is self-cleansing. All you do when you "cleanse" is put money in people's pockets for nothing.

where cleanses have some uses, in general 99% of the people don't actually need them. Many of the common food items we eat provide a flush by their very makeup. Of those 99% that don't need a flush but think they do because they're feeling rough, a large majority of it (outside of a medical condition a doctor should look into) is more a need for a good dose of antioxidants (fat burning can be a dirty business) or some extra water (dilute the problem). If it's stomach or bowel upset, a serving or three of yogurt for a day or two will clear you up. Its the bacteria.

That's pretty much the long and the short of it when it comes to cleanses and what they're claimed to cure. Add in some mystic sounding words and 21 herbs & spices and you too can sound like an expert.

I actually like doing cleanses :s I like the slimquick 7 day senna cleanse pills. Not necessarily for the 3-5 pounds you loose on a cleanse, but I found it really made me feel a lot cleaner sort of. Maybe it was more of a mental thing but I will continue to do them unless I find out its actually NOT good for your body. Does anyone know something I don't? :bigear:

Well, I actually study this, being a lay student of alternative and natural medicines.

Senna? aka Cassia senna, tinnevelly senna, India senna, Alexandrian senna, and Khartoum senna.
Brand names: Dosaflex, Dr Caldwell Laxative, The entire Ex-Lax Line, etc. Can mess with you if you take any calcium channel blockers, such as some high blood pressure pills. Lotrel comes to mind right away.

Can also lead to constipation after prolonged use due to laxative dependence.

I would fathom a guess I know a few things you don't ;)
