Can anyone please advice some good exercises to develop speed and balance for 10-year-old boy at home? One new resistance band set from timberbrother and two 5 lb dumbbells are all we have right now. Is there any equipment need to be involved? He’s already starting some short jogs. THANKS!

Children should not use weights, IMO because without the proper supervision and training, it can cause problems with bone growth, along with other problems. Plyometrics is your best friend. Stairs, pushups, box jumps, no weight squats, hurtles, agility training, etc.

The best way for a youth to develop both speed and agility is to participate in sport with quality coaching. While the use of weights for kids is ok it must be done under supervision of a qualified coach, when done correctly injury risks are minimal.

getting outside and simply playing in the park, running, jumping, climbing (monkey bars are great) at this age it is all about having fun.

Yes, children should not do lifting. Don't be so hard on your kids. I would recommend something like dancing or plain sports such Soccer or Basketball since children would enjoy them more than some repetitive boring gym exercises.

Have you read the studies for kids who lift weights ? I would suggest you read the resources linked to from this article. Gym exercises especially for kids are not boring, you may prefer basketball or soccer and that is ok but those sports do have a higher injury rate in kids than lifting weights.

As a sports trainer (equivalent to an athletics trainer in the US) i get to see and treat these injury rates not just in statistics but on the fields and courts of these sports.

You do have a point but it's just my opinion that a 10 year old kid would not enjoy lifting weights. He would rather play a sport with his friends.

I don't think that this will will be a good idea to use anything to lose weight for you 10 years child.
