Hi,
I've depression due to childhood abuse. There's a link between obesity and abuse. Does anyone else have this? And if so, what do you do to "comfort" yourself?
I use food to "comfort" myself but I'm so sick of this behaviour.

So, I suppose what I'm trying to ask is, is there another way of comforting yourself that will give you the same kick, as chocolate would?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
C

Hi Stonecath and welcome. Comfort eating is very common and for me depression makes it harder to choose active solutions over chocolate. Talk therapy helped me a lot and these days I can usually rely on a walk, a warm bath, or a phonecall with someone I love for comfort. Everyone's different though, so I hope you'll find what works for you (journaling, meditation, cooking your favorite stew, listening to your favorite podcast while playing a game...)

Hi LaMaria,
I hear what you're saying. I suppose it's about putting in the effort and finding comfort elsewhere. Chocolate is just such a quick fix...and that's the problem. It's about finding other ways then to make yourself feel better, instead of turning to food. Forming new and healthier habits.
