hey everyone,

this is preferrably directed to people in the UK. I'm looking for a decent protein source and wondering if there's a place/store/online store where i can buy chicken breasts in bulk for a REASONABLE price?

I ask this because during my visit to the US, there was a bulk store (sam's club) where i'd be able to buy a frozen pack of 40 chicken breasts for a pretty affordable price which would last a while...but i haven't been able to find any such place here in the UK, the stores just selll small portions of individual chicken breasts and at a costly price. So my main protein source currently is lean beef mince which is still higher in fat content than i'd like but at the moment it's the cheapest store option.

So....does anybody out there know where i can buy chicken breasts in bulk (and also if possible fish fillets). I know it's a tall order but would appreciate any input thanks!

Costco and Makro.

I was in my local indian butcher today and he said he would do 20 kilos for £60 which is less than half the price of the supermarket. Fish I just get from Iceland, just the frozen white fish fillets. Mackrel, salmon etc whenever they have a good offer in the supermarket.

thanks girl! i've seen a couple of local indian butchers around so will definitely check it out for the chicken breasts. i used to buy my frozen fish fillets from iceland but it's like the branch i go to has them on and off which can be frustrating. those butcher prices sound good in comparison to the supermarket prices. thanks again xoxo

I saw in Sainsburys that they do

Chicken Portions, Basics 2.5kg

£3.49/per bag
£1.40/kg

Probably not great quality but the cheapest I have seen in the supermarket.

No worries,

I was thinking about this further and at the moment chicken breasts are 1/2 price at £4 for a 500g pack in Sainsburys. So at the current special offer its £8 a kilo for for 20 kilos it would be £160!!! So the Indian price is cheap! I'm going to place an order for some right this afternoon. I'm going to get 15 kilos of plain breast and then get them to dice 5 kilos. And if you ask them nicely they will wash, season it pack it up in individual portions which is a bonus. Have you got some yet?

hey girl,
i actually re-thought the idea because i live in a shared household so there is like close to zero freezer space so wouldn't know where to put the 20kgs (as it's almost a fight to get freezer space...lol!). if i ever get my own place i'll definitely do that for sure.

as luck may have it, i just found out that asda has a lower end brand of skinless boneless chicken breasts (they're called smart price), they sell 1kg for £3.20....so the other day i was at tesco and ramaged the frozen food and found they have the 'tesco value' skinless boneless chicken at the same rate 1kg for like £3.29.

so for now that's what i'm using i usually just dress them a little and put them all in the oven...the 1kg will take me for about 2-3days which is great because it means i only have to cook every 3 days or so.

I hear ya about the shared house business! Those are good prices for the Teaco and Asda chicken. I might check that out, and save the freezer space. Do you eat turkey too? Its leaner than chicken, i was thinking about getting a pack and having that as an alternative this week.
