Chest pains when running

Hi Guys and Girls

I have turned to these forums with hope that someone will advice me and give me a few tips on getting healthy.

I am a newbie so I thank all of you for your generous donations in advice.

I have recently started jogging however I am experiencing chest pains close to the heart and some pain in upper stomache area, this only happens when I am jogging and prevents me from going that extra mile.

Could it be due to trying to much too soon.

What advice would people reccommend to newbie joggers, what sort of distances times should I be starting off with

I am currently running 400m at medium - slow pace then normally walk the next 400m, my second 400m I try to do jog as much as my body will allow me but the pain is putting me off

I am a occasional smoker

Talked to your doctor yet?
Have any clue what your heart rate is at when you feel these pains?
Quit the cigarettes...its rough I know but trust me they don't help you at all!

get it checked out by a doctor .... could be something minor .... I too smoke and have recently started gym (cardio equipment and some light weights)

I have been going to gym for 6 weeks now, and on the treadmill, for the 1st 5 weeks, I walked at a fast pace ... it is only the past few days that I have started jogging (9 minutes walking at 7.2km/hr then the next 6 minutes jogging at 8km/hr then the last minut, running at 11km/hr (I spend 16 minutes on the treadmill)

so take it slow to start off, but do get checked by your doctor and also let him check your blood pressure etc

Thanks for the replies

MY persoal trainer has advised me that there me maybe some build up of fat in ther arteries however I have not mentioned that too him because he has done his assement and probably knows not to do anything streniuous

I am seriously considering quitting smoking or at least using alternative e-cigs. I cant understand why im also getting pain around my abdominal area when running. is it because I have a weak core?

Could be costochondritis. Big scary word that simply means the cartilage between your ribs is becoming inflamed. I get it on a hard run when I'm breathing really heavy, especially if I haven't been running in a while.

An internet forum would be the last place I would turn for chest pain. This is your heart we could be talking about. You better get it checked, before you drop dead while jogging.

Even I ve been facing the same and haven't found an answer yet. I even did go through the below forum where tons of people are facing the same issue with not even a single answer. Any expertise will be much appreciated.

It could just be something minor caused by your body not being use to the intense demand suddenly placed on it. It could be a slight case of angina, as that tends to be a common case while running.

Unless you have a chronic respiration disorder, such as asthma, I'm pretty sure it's not your lungs. No one ever even comes close to using their full lung capacity during even maximum exercise, so there shouldn't be any unnecessary stress in that area.

Dear Javsta,

It's better that consult your doctor before starting any kind of exercise because your doctor will inspect your body and advice you some exercises and the level of the exercise. I think you started a heavy exercise at your initial stage and your body did'nt accept it.

Hello

Chest pain while running is very serious thing, first of all must be taken the chest X-Ray to find any fatal disease, may be tuberculosis etc....,for this it is necessary to visit the chest specialist doctor for its cure.

I think before you do any more exercise you really need to go and get a total body physical and let the doctor know of your ailments.

First of all give up smoking. It would be really harmful for your health in future and may bring some big and incurable problems in your body. It is strongly advisable to you.

You are a new jogger and now you are feeling some problems. I think that this is quite normal to me. Before starting jogging you were used to with different life style. Now you start jogging and you are going through in completely different life style. So allow some time to your body to adjust and adapt to your new routine.

Your daily routine is good. There is no problem with your daily routine. All you need to do is to carry on. If you can maintain then it would bring some positive result.

Now follow my advice and i believe it would help you not to face this type of problem again. Do you warm up before jogging? If no then spend some time on free hand exercise. It would lose your muscle and it would help you to run more smoothly.

Drinking enough water before running is also very important. It would supply enough water to your muscle and ensure more oxygen. You would have more control over your breathing system. It is advisable to start running at slow pace and then speed up gradually.

Follow this and keep up your hard working.
