Chasing My Military Self

Hey everyone, I decided to join this forum after my week of jumping back into losing weight. There was a time where I was a lean and mean monster of a young man. During my time in the military it was easy for me to stay in shape. However since getting out in 2010 I fell into a type of depression/slump for some years *its been worked on* so I put on a lot of weight.

Age - 29 *30 in April*
Height- 5Ft 9In
Weight- 255lbs

This week was the first week I stopped drinking soda and my daily Redbulls. Everyday I have been going to the gym and riding the stationary bike for around 40-44 minutes @10-11 total miles daily. My heart rate while doing this activity stays at 135-155bpm. My daily calorie intake is around 1300-1500 calories, low I know. My plan next week is to incorporate some weight lifting after my time on the stationary bike. I just needed this week to kind of set a baseline/routine with actually going and the whole changing of my eating habits.

Eventually once I drop some weight I want to start running again and really get into back into a point where I am happy with how I look.

I am open to any and all pointers or even conversation about my low-ish calorie intake. I don't do anything else after my stationary bike session and sit behind a computer screen, so I was keeping my calories low by choice. It is currently day 4 and I really don't feel like I'm in a bad spot or anything. I have been getting headaches throughout the day but I suppose that is from the lack of soda and red bull. I used to drink 2-4 of the small cans of soda a day + a 12oz Redbull in the morning.

I am hoping that with these 10 miles a day on the bike, lowering my caloric intake and cutting out soda/energy drinks I will start to see some gains. I drink around 5-8 bottles of water daily @16.9Fl.OZ

If you have read all of this thank you for your time I hope to be an active member in this community!

Much love everyone!

Hello and welcome to the forum! First off, regardless of what country you might be from, thank you for your service.

That caffeine addiction is a BITCH. I haven't even touched mine yet. Regarding your caloric intake, it is a little low, but not concerningly so. I would just advise you to be willing to adjust slightly up by 100-200 calories if you find it difficult to maintain your exercise. Just see how you feel.

Also, I would recommend starting a thread in the Weight Loss Diary section of the forum. It tends to be the most active and there are a lot of great people in there.

Thank you very much for your support and for responding! I have been able to complete my current workout routine just fine, even today on minimal sleep, due to late night shoveling of a big snow storm we had! Some of the online calorie calculators have stated I could be up to 1800-1900 and still lose weight with my current 5-7 days of working out. I will more than likely keep it on the lower side unless, like you stated, I start not meeting my workout goals.

The caffeine addiction has really, really sucked. I know its the biggest culprit in my personal fight. That plus usually only eating one meal a day, that being dinner and eating till i feel sick. Hopefully with my 3 meals now and a snack, usually an apple in the afternoon, I will be able to build and keep this better eating habit! Im just hoping these mild headaches stop soon. Its become quite annoying having this just mild number out headache for the better part of all day!

I took your advice and made a post in the Diary section and will be updating it throughout the day. Again, thank you for pointing me in that direction.
