chain jumping on sprocket

I have a 10 year old trek bike , but only seldom used.
I noticed that it started jumping the sprocket on the rear in high gear even while spinning (not mashing) so I went to my local bike shop and they sold me some chain lube and it is like an oil , but it is so wet that after about 60 miles the whole drive chian and all sprockets need a big cleaning (so gunked up) ...
But the jumping problem continues... The gears seem to mesh up ok, but I did notice that the crank bearing is very loose and I cannot seem to get the cranks off.. I get the nuts off but I cannot get the crank (which looks to be just jammed onto the stem) off....
I probably should take it in for maintenance, but no job mean little $$$
and riding keeps me somewhat sane (maybe a litttle)
Anybody with advice ,,, pipe up please
Thanks and God bless
Dennis
