is centrum a good multi-vitamin supplement to use for a 14 yr old kid? my friend is using it and it says it has a lot of nutrition in it.
 
In my opinion it would depend on how much he weighs. I have 4 boys(ages 5-17) When the first two just became teenagers I would give them chewables.
the first chewables vit. I would give them in the morning & it would have iron in it. The second chewable vit. would be w/out iron and I give it to them in the evenings. Now they take a multi.vit. , of course they don't take it everyday because they are not dedicated to it (they're teenagers/ lol)
 
actually, centrum is full of preservatives, fillers, and has that crappy outer shell.

there are worse vitamins, but there are many better brands out there.

That's true, they are coated in shellac. Yes, shellac as in what is used in wood finishing.

I once heard a horror story about some people who had the unfortunate job of cleaning out port-a-potties for a living. Apparently, centrum pills in their whole state would settle to the bottom of the potties because the human body cannot digest them.

If you decide to try them, I'd put one in a small glass of water to see how quickly it disolves. It should disolve completely in an hour or it's not doing you much good.

If you need an inexpensive vitamin, I'd go to Walgreen's and get the store brand. They are sodium free, no lactose or preservatives added. They do disolve within 60 minutes. A bottle of 365 pills (1 year supply) is $7.99.
 
I also highly recommend vitamins from They come in little packets with your multivitamins, calcium (with vit D and K2), fish oils (omega-3's) and CoQ10. They are a little bit more expensive but you can't really put a price on health can you ;)
 
Nutrilite

I've had a great experience with Double X multi-vitamins from Nutrilite. More expensive, but dissolves completely and provides all-day energy. I definitely notice a difference when I don't take them.
