Sport cashew butter, yum!

Holy shiiite this is good stuff! Have you ever had cashew butter? I just got my hands on some natural CB, I thought peanut butter was the best, but this is smooooth, creeeeamy and sweeeeet. I'll take this over milk chocolate any day. Mine's about $4 bucks for 400g compared to $1 for same amount of natural pb, but gonna have to have both on hand! I think I'll need to be careful not to overdo the cals on this stuff though.

A few years ago i tried the "raw food" thing and ended up trying a lot of foods i'd never tried before. Cashew butter was a definite surprise! I loved it! I find it slightly sweeter than peanut butter and really gooey. Yum infinity!!!!!! I also liked sesame butter (tahini) and sunflower butter but these are not as sweet.

I have a quick question about the kind that you bought.

Was it made with Roasted Cashews, Salt & Saffron Oil? That's all that I can seem to find in my local health food store. I want Raw (unroasted) cashew butter but it's a hard find in the stores.

Aha! Very good observation... when i was into raw foods i read a lot of raw food forums and the topic of "raw" cashews was always a sticky issue (no pun intended). The outer shell of the cashew nut is so hard and difficult to remove that vertially no processing method exists where they don't heat it to a high temperature. However, it think in recent years there may be some raw food businesses that have tried to deal with this issue and offer true "raw" cashews. I haven't looked into it for awhile but you could probably find out on a raw food forum site. To answer your question, it's probably not possible to find any truly raw cashew butter on the market. However, it may be a really good upper arm workout to try to remove the shells yourself then grind away....

Mine has only got cashews and salt(though it's so sweet it's almost hard to believe...it almost tastes like caramel). Anyway, The label doesn't say whether they're roasted or not, but judging by the color, I'd say the are. I do remember reading somewhere that cashews have to be roasted to remove a layer of toxicity, but not sure about this.

I also want to try almond butter, but it's so damn expensive!

If you have a food processor you can grind up the nuts and make your own... Just a thought...

I've thought about doing that. It would be cool to make a nutbutter blend to my own liking. Nuts seem pretty dry to me though, so where does the oily part come from? Do you have to add extra nut oil to make nutbutter? Or does just grinding them up create that consistency?

Depends on how much natural oils are in the nuts themselves when you grind them. As far as I understand it, there "should" be enough to create the consistency you want, but again, I've not tried it yet. I actually did buy peanuts for this purpose, but haven't gotten around to grinding them yet, as I've about a jar and a half of store bought peanut butter to go.

Well my mom makes some kind of Walnut Butter homemade and she has to add a bit of oil if not it does not get enough of a "buttery" consistency.
