Cardio before weight training???

I am a keen swimmer who swims for a club, i train every week night but have been told i need to take weight work into my exercise.

I have read a few tips that cardio is not good to do before weight work as you use all your enegry on the cardio.

The only time i go to the gym at the moment is on a saturday as its a non-swimming day. Iv planned to go to the gym after swimming on a monday, wednesday and friday but am not sure if there is anything i can eat/drink between swimming and the gym to help me? I really am new to this.

Unfortunatly there is not really any chance i can go to the gym 1st as by the time i finish work and start swimming i only have enough time to eat.

I have a gym plan but dont want it to be wasted if im not doing things in the right order, all too confusing for me.

And help would be gratefully appreciated,

Thanks

You are no doubt in great shape, being a "keen swimmer" and all.

You will be fine. I swam before I lifted last night.

For dinner, eat. IOt's ok to lift with food in your stomach. Make a meal and take it with you. Or at least have protein shake or soemthing, otherwise you will burn yourself all up. Lifting burns lots of cals.

Welcome to the site.

Thanks,

As there is about 10 minutes between my swim and gym work i think ill go for the protein shake.

Now to find a protein shake to suit...!

Body Fortress from Walmart, about 15.00 a tub is the best bang for the buck.

We went round and round on here a few years ago, and that was our conclusion.

Shakes can get pricey.

good luck

If you are going for a cardio before weight, there should be nothing wrong with it unless you go out of your league and try out things that can knock you out. Your cardio should serve as your warm up. Don't worry about being out of energy; you will always have sources all over. Try to choose the most convenient energy source and try not to get into overdrive mode during weights - It could result to injuries. Try to take it slow so nothing will go wrong.

Try to have your gym plan fixed and always ask for others opinions about it.

Since swimming is your priority, swim first, lift weights after. It's rare that I give the advice to do cardio first and strength training afterwards, but in your situation it's fitting.
