cardio advice

i run on the tredmill 5 to 6 times a week for a about an hour at a time. recently my right knee started hurting when i do a full squat. am i over doing it on the tred mill. what is a good balance because i want to maintain my weight. should i give the tredmill a rest for a couple of days for my knee to get better. will walking at an incline be effective. is an hour too long on the tredmill. i dont want to regress. in order to maintain my weight, should i be more concerned about the calories i burn or about the miles i walk.

Miles you walk is going to have a better effect on your heart health than weight.

As far as weight, calories are always what you want to look at (and calorie sources).

Walking at an incline is more intense and will work your leg muscles (thighs and calves, esp.) which will help you lose more weight / make it easier to maintain weight. You wouldn't want to do this every day necessarily because of the strain it would put on your joints.

Look into high-intensity interval training as an option for better weight loss workouts.

You might want to step down your cardio a little if your knees start hurting - the only real cure for knees once they get damaged beyond a point is knee replacement surgery. Take good care of them.
