Sport Carbs Question

Sport Fitness
Hey guys,

I'm new to these forums, so hello :)

I'm currently working towards weight loss, and have a question regarding diet.

I try to do an hour of cardio exercise 3 times a week, burn about 650 cals each time. I do this at about 7pm, and as a result eat about an hour after exercise. Now the other day i heard that carbs are the worst thing to eat after exercise as they stop the fat burning process, is this correct? Generally what i eat after exercise is high protein (fish/chicken) but carbs as well, i.e tuna/pasta/veg bake, or salmon with fresh veg stirfry.

So what im asking is how drastically does eating carbs such as veg and pasta effect the weight loss process after exercise, when metabolism is at its highest rate?

Thanks for any advice

No.

Protein and Carbs are exactly what you want.

Thanks alot for the help guys, looks like i must have heard wrongly :p

Hello. What kind of cardio routine are you doing and how do you know you are burning 650 calories?

I just do about 45mins/1hr on the cross trainer, im also currently 104kg @ 6ft 4", heart rate seems to stay at about 185/190 and it seems to be working fairly well.

One other question if anyone can help, I am not currently doing anything to build up muscle, purely cardio. Is this a bad thing for weight loss? I mean i don't want to be losing muscle rather than fat... Would it make much of a difference if i do some pressups in the morning and 15mins on the dumbells per day?

you need to hit the gym, and lift heavy for your muscles to feel that they are still needed. If not you will burn them as well as fat. How much is your deficit?
that also plays a crucial role in determining losses.

Hmm thanks, i have just been doing cardio at the gym, guess i should start with weights asap by the sounds of it.

Im eating around 1500 cals a day, ive come down to 104kg from about 125kg in 6 months.

I do alot of walking on a daily basis, so can i assume its just my arm muscles that will need 'maintaining'?

You absolutely need to include strength training. Otherwise, you'll just become a smaller, flabbier version of what you are now if you only do cardio to lose weight. I suggest you make time for compound movements, squats, pushups, rows, etc.. I would also suggest you do HIIT cardio after you strength train. HIIT sessions will leave you burning calories well after your workout ends. Good luck!

You dont really need carbs after a cardio session IMO.

Could you "please" expand your reasoning on not needing carbs after a cardio session. I am not agreeing nor disagreeing with you. My intent is learning your angle of thought.

I would appreciate the educated input from you. Thank you :)

Best regards,

hit the full body, as walking is not going to be shocking your muscles enough to compensate for weight training.
