Carbs in sups okay after work out?
________________________________________
Hi

I just deleted another post due to the fact I just bought this stuff:

MASS GAINER PROTEIN BY BALANCE CALORIE DENSE MASS GAINER FOR SERIOUS SIZE - BODY BUILDING SUPPLEMENTS - NUTRITION WAREHOUSE, DISCOUNT, BODY BUILDING, SPORTS, FITNESS, SUPPLEMENTS, PROTEIN POWDERS, MUSCLE BUILDERS, WEIGHT GAINERS, CREATINE, FAT BURNER

It was cheap, and only 520 gm's so I can just buy new stuff.

My personal trainer told me if I want to buy this stuff to get low carb stuff, as I am trying to lose body fat. This stuff has 30g's of carbs per serving, and
26gm's of Protein.

I was wondering, is it true that I can consume a fair few carbs 30mins after a workout without it packing on as fat? Should I eat it before a workout if this is not the case?

Thank you for any advice.

Tom

Not true.

The combo of whey and simple carbs postworkout is optimal for the repair/rebuild of muscle tissue. It's a perfect time to take advange of your body being in an anabolic like state. Of course you have to pay close attention to all of your other meals however for me, whey/simple carbs are a staple whether cutting or bulking.

i would think 10g carbs, 30g protein would be better for a postworkout shake. youre saying a equal amount is better?

I've actually read that a 2:1 or even 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein is best. I use 72 grams dextrose and 24 grams protein for PWO when bulking, and usually 48 grams dextrose 24 grams protein when cutting. Doesn't matter whether you are bulking or cutting, after heavy lifting, your body is depleted of it's energy...glycogen is drained from the muscles. Getting that boost of carbs will not just go to waste or be stored as fat, it will get broken down immediately and put to use.

post workout I usually have at least 30-50g of simple sugars from either blueberries, or just eating some pure dextrose/maltodextrin along with about 30-40g protein.

You WANT the simple carbs because you WANT the insulin spike. Assuming you are becoming more insulin sensitive as you get leaner and leaner, it will make this post workout meal/shake more and more effective too.
