Cant run due to heavy cough, any advice?

Hi, I am running approx 2.5 miles every day, but have stopped over the last couple of weeks due to a heavy energy sapping chest cough. I dare not risk attempting to run with this condition as it has weakened me. Has anyone suffered the same frustration, and am I doing the right thing by laying off the training? The only thing is I am losing my fitness the longer I leave it.

i had pneumonia once.. i lost weight withought having to run.. lolz so make sure to eat right :)

the running will still be there when you get better.. but when you get back in your running shoes youll have the motivation x 10 i did anyways ;D

Better to rest and completely recover. If not you might end up with pneumonia which would put you out of action even longer. Not to mention it isn't any fun. Hope you get feeling better soon.

Take Sage tea

It is good advice to stop for awhile. I've known two people (my wife and also my mother) who got over pneumonia quickly by downing sage tea. The sage dries up mucuous. To help liquify the mucuous for easier removal, I recommend elderberry herb tablets and the amino acid L-Cysteine, plus all the clean water you can swallow. Take 1000 mg vitamin C once a day as well. As an extra precaution, the amino acid L-lysine will halt the spread of viruses in your system.

We take garlicin cf for colds and flu (its garlic, echinacea, zinc, vit c, biflavanoids all in an enteric coated capsule)

original studies conducted said taking 9 a day (3 times the label) allowed people to reduce colds and deep chest infections by 50% of down time.

I've found it cuts my colds by about half but more so it prevented it from developing as deep, which of course is the kind you have to take time off for.

As a rule for me, exercise with ahead cold is fine, with a chest cold is a no no.

cheers

sapped of energy any dietry or vitamin advice

Hi as previously stated I have been suffering from a chest infection was totally stopped my running for approx 5 weeks, I have since resumed and find I am totally exhausted half way into my usual run. I think the infection has taken its toll and would appreciate any advice on the best foods or vitamins to supplement my depleted system until I can regain full fitness, many thanks

Take 1000 mg vitamin C, Elderberry capsules, 500 mg L-Lysine, and 500 mg NAC once per day. Try adding sage leaves in a hot drink, which are great for drying up mucous.

For energy, try ginseng, B vitamins, and L-carnitine. Bananas are the favorite food of gorillas, and may help as well, as they contain vitamin B6 for energy.
