Hi Everyone,

For over 2 years i've excised 4-5 times a week doing both weights and cardio. I've kept an extremely strict diet limiting my sugar, calorie and fat intake closely. I don't eat red meat, I limit my dairy and eat only whole grain carbs. I'm not extremely overweight but for my height, age and eating habits, I still have extra fat that won't get shed. I don't have excessive amount to lose. I have about 10-15 pounds that i've been trying to lose and no matter what i've done over the last couple years, i've seen no results. I've tried all of the diet fads out there, i've followed Dr.Oz's weight tips religiously. I've seen nutritionists which have been little to no help. I've recently tried going gluten free over the last 2 months and still after everything… no results. I don't count specific calories but I am cautious of my calorie intake. My meals are portioned, for example; 1/2 cup of oats or 1/2 cup of quinoa would be 1 serving size for me. I eat somewhere between 1200-1450 calories a day.

I'm starting to think I might have some type of condition. I've been tested for thyroid and it came back normal

If anyone has a similar problem or might be able to help me in anyway I would truly appreciate it. The last year has been extremely discouraging and finding a solution would mean the world to me.

I suggest that you count your calories and weigh food instead of using cups to guess on quantities... It can make a lot of difference - and that can be enough difference to keep a person well away from goal if they do not have too much weight to lose.

Have you tried counting your sodium? A number of years ago I did a major weight loss project on this forum... I lost the first 147 pounds in 13 months and then took the next 13 months to lose the last 21 pounds... In fact I got stuck for the best part of a year and dropped 13 pounds in 5 weeks getting me to goal when I started counting my sodium... It appeared like I had lost the fat and was carrying a load of water... It took those 5 weeks to flush the water out of my system... I would say to anyone that gets stuck that it is worth making sure that you are drinking lots of water and keeping their sodium under 2300mg per day for a while to see if it makes a difference...

The fact that I have gained a little weight recently in stressful times is neither here nor there and doesn't remove the value of this...

Sorry to hear that. I don't know about the ideal weight that you have in your mind. To me, 10-15 pounds of additional weight is not much (hope you are not angry!). You have not specified your BMI. That makes it difficult to assess the degree of your problem.

There is too much junk in the wild wild web. But experts like to say that you have a set point that determines your weight loss. Work too hard and your body will try to conserve energy. Do little work: sorry, body will still hoard energy. Body is partial to energy. Otherwise it dies.

It seems like you have possibly done enough. That extra amount of pounds must be hiding around your tummy. It's an ideal place that a fat cell would like to call it's home - no bony restrictions, lots of hollow spaces beneath and a loose layer of skin.

You can start with the location of excess fat. In most cases it will be around the waist. It is said that to lose one pound, you have to restrict 3500 kcals. So in your case you are looking at a calorie restriction of 35000-50000 kcals. Make your own time frame. Be aware of your food intake. Supplement with moderate degree of exercise like bicycling and jogging. Walking or running a marathon won't help you. The middle path is the keyword here.
