Cant lose anymore weight - HELP!

Hi, Ive been coming on this forum for weeks, and it has really helped me lose weight, but now i just need some advice at getting over the next hurdle!

I weighed 17.1 stone (239.4 pounds if my maths are correct!). Im 6"4 so people are usually suprised i weighed so much, as i dont actually look 'fat'. Anyway, I broke my leg recently and havnt been able to do any excersize at all, so i chose to over compensate for lack of excersize, and eat only 800 calories a day (Yes, i know, too little).

Well, here i am 8 weeks later and i weigh 15.9 stone, but i cant lose anymore weight. Nothing has come off in the past 2 weeks. Ive been told I should increase my calories, as my body wont lose anymore weight with so little calories that ive been having. But wont that mean I will gain some weight?

Another problem is my woking hours. I usually get to bed at 3 a.m and wake up at 12.30 pm, so I dont have set times to have a meal, i just usually eat around 1 p.m and then again at about 8 p.m or 9 p.m

I really hope I havnt ruined my chances of losing anymore weight!

Any help or advice would be great.

Thanks

If you've been coming here and reading posts for weeks, then you should know (and you seem to!) that 800 calories is far too low, even for someone way smaller than you.

You should be eating 2,000 calories MINIMUM! You're doing damage to yourself. Check out the post by Steve called "you don't have to starve yourself". Please.

Wow - I know what it is like to feel frustrated and depressed because you can't seem to lose anymore weight, but don't you think you have lost enough?

At 6'4", it seems you should be around your optimal weight. And, I agree that 800 calories a day is not the way! Your body just shuts down and burns muscle instead of fat. It will conserve all your fat stores.

Instead of eating such a small diet, why not do upperbody exercises? Eat a normal caloric intake of good foods and exercise the upper body.

Yes, I just spoke to my doctor on the phone and she said I should definatly be eating twice the amount of calories im currently eating. So il start eating more. And i just read that thread you mentioned, I never knew I was eating such a little amount of calories! Thanks for the warning. Is increasing my calories going to make me gain any weight, as my body has been used to such a small amount?

It might at first, but it's okay. Your body will need to make it's own adjustments. Increase your calories a little each day until you get up to around maintenance level for a while (which would be about 3400 calories!) I know it sounds like a lot, but your body NEEDS it. Then lower your intake to 10-12 calories per pound. (That'd be about 2300-2800). You will lose weight with that.

Well, following from what you said, i increased my calories day by day up to 2000, with the hope of increasing them slowly a little this week. And Ive started losing weight again already- 2lbs. Thank you for your advice!

Amazing, isn't it. :p

Good advice DQ.
