Can't get rid of fat on stomach, even lipsuction didn't work

I have extra fat on my stomach. I am in shape and do aerobic exercise for about two hours every day, but can't get rid of small, but noticeable fat on my stomach. I got liposuction a couple years ago, but it didn't work. Is there some type of new procedure that might help me? I'm not looking for a six pack, just to get rid of the extra fat.

Apparently, from what I've read, doing exercise to target my abs is not going to help me. Would doing ab exersize help a little? how about building chest muscles to stretch the fat? i'm willing to try anything. Thanks.

No easy way, you have to lose overall body fat. Your body itself will decide where it will lose that weight.

How is your diet? are you burning more than what you consume?

More information would help.

Male or female?
Age, weight, height?
What do you eat?
What other kinds of exercise do you do?

It's really hard to give advice based on "I have stomach fat" and no other information. :)

I'm male 27 years old, 5'11", 165 lbs. i gain and lose weight very easily. right now i do aerobic exercise for about 2 to 3 hours a week. this allows me to eat "junk food" while keeping the weight down. i'm also very healthy. the only "not-skinny" part of my body is my stomach. at one point (a couple years ago) i did eat healthy and made a food log and monitored my calories, which i was very picky about (i was lifting weights at the time).

also, a while ago, i was sick and throwing up every day for a week. I lost 20 pounds (down to 140). I was skinny everywhere, but that area of fat was still there (not as much, but still there).

I don't drink much water either because i heard that it makes you look bigger..

I'm thinking that it's genetic and there's not a thing I can do about it, but I guess i'm just wondering if ab exercises would help at least a little bit because that's one thing i've never tried.

woah! i don't know where you got your info from, but never take their advice again!! Drinking water is the single best thing you can do for yourself!

You should be drinking 1/2 your weight in oz. If your 165, you should be having over 80 oz a day minimum!

Problem #1

Problem #2

Ok, first of all .. erase from your mind the concept of "I heard that" ... if you hear something ... LOOK IT UP. You have access to the Internet with thousands upon thousands upon thousands of resources at the click of a button. I am amazed by the people who will take "I heard somewhere that ... " and never bother to question what they hear - even though they can't remember where they heard it or even if it was a reputable source.

Not drinking water makes your body retain water - which makes you hold on to weight and look fat and bloated. A sort of general rule of thumb that the American Sports Medicine council recommends is to divide your body weight in half and drink that much water in ounces. So you should be drinking at a minimum 83 oz of water a day.

Ok, that's my mini-rant over with! :)

Next - just because you can shed pounds by doing cardio doesn't mean you can eat junk and still be healthy and fit looking. Junk food adds fat and flab. If you cut the junk, make sure you're getting adequate amounts of protein, and lift weights, you'll cut a lot more body fat. Then you can add cardio in on top of that as you see fit to burn calories.

Don't use "it's genetic" as an excuse. Take responsibility for what you eat - you eat junk and don't drink water, then yeah, you're going to retain fat, and probably belly fat (since most people tend to hold on to fat there more than elsewhere) and probably will look flabby (or skinny-fat as we refer to it around here).

Check out the sections on nutrition and the sticky posts on weight lifting in the exercise area. There's a lot of good information there. :)

Visceral fat reduction (belly fat)

You are not alone in your quest to reduce belly fat clinically known as visceral fat.The sad truth is that the human body decides where it will store fat. If your genes call for you to carry your fat around your waste, it will be next to imposible for you to ever be completly free of fat cells around the abdomin. Most people tend to store fat in the midsection so that the fat which is used for energy is close to the organs that need it. It makes no sense to store fat cells on your toes according to natural physiology. Here are a list of things that have been clinically studied at the University Of Miami that have shown to reduce this visually unappealing fat as well as potentially harmfull metabolic organ. (belly fat is an active organ) First keep this formula simple. Calories in has to be less than calaories out. Stay away from complex carbs and avoid any sort of carbohydrate after 5pm. Use an H20 Calculator as well as a BMR basal metabloic rate calclulator to get the exact amount of water and calories you need to eat daily. Strictly follow an interval exercise routine. Interval training has been proven to burn calories all day long as well as keeps the body confused consistantly. Last is supplementation. There are over 5000 weight loss products from acai to different cleanses. I strongly urge you to do a google scholar search on these products. You will quickly realize that in the clinical world, not a single study has ever been done on these two popular weight loss products. DHEA is the only product that has clinical data published in medical journals showing efficacy in reduction of belly fat. There are 100 companies who make DHEA and the cost is minor ($10-$20) per 1-2 month supply. I normally tell my cleints to go with the market leader Vimulti or any generic version as long as it is a reputable company. The makers of Vimulti have a free web site that has all the clinical data on dhea as well as free workout routines from the University of Miami as well as all the calculators mentioned above. There is no need to be a member or buy any of their products to access these free tools. Good luck and stay focused and you wil see that fat melt away

Your post is very hard to read. I'd suggest some spacing, the words are all crammed together. I hope your not going to advertise for any free sites b/c that would be spamming and we ban people for that.

also, these pills you mention are for the birds. Weight loss comes down to cals in vs cals out and NO pill on the market has ever truly helped in long term loss. period.

I disagree, I think your being to hard on pills and honestly a being a little to personal. I am sure that some pills have help choice people in their efforts for long term weight loss. Until you have tryed them all, don't go around saying they all don't work.

One doesn't have to try every pill themselves to know that "weight loss pills" don't work. Research - real, independent research has shown that.

Regardless, the rules of this site prohibit spamming. Korrie is only doing her job as a mod to warn people that if they spam, they'll be banned. It has nothing to do with "getting personal". It's quite simply the rule here.

Oh no no I didnt mean getting personal with the spamming thing, its just seemed she might have tried pills before and they didnt work and sounded like she might have held a grudge against that form of weight loss hehe. I didn't mean to be rude at all.

Sorry to disappoint, but I've never taken any kind of weight loss pill. My feelings towards the effectiveness of pills comes from seeing TONS of friends, online and in "real life" try them. What happened? nothing.

I've yet to see ONE successful case of a diet pill that worked LONG TERM. Sure, maybe a few people have seen some short term success but it was not the help of the pill that caused the weight loss, rather than the person eating healthier and excersizing. Besides, why sit back and give a pill the credit for your hard work?

Also, anyone who knows me knows that i'm very anti-pill. I was this way before starting nursing school and worse now that I have, lol. I believe in medicines and pills when its absolutely necessary. If I get a headache, I take a relaxing bath or a nap..I do whatever it takes to avoid putting chemicals in my body. I feel the same way about weight loss.

Another reason for not being a fan of pills is that, as i mentioned above, they are chemicals! Chemicals can be very dangerous. Ephedra for one, look at what a disaster that was. There well over 800 documented injuries and over 50 deaths caused by that "weight loss miracle". Look at Alli..the stuff will cause you to ooze oils from your rectum. That doesn't' sound healthy to me. The Alli website has even said that people may gain weight after quitting the pill. Thats just 2 examples, i know there are hundreds out there...i dont' have the time...

I dont' know about you, but I don't' think the countless negative results of taking a weight loss pill is worth taking a chance that I'll be unnecessarily harmed. So do I hold a grudge against weight loss pills? yea, you can say that.

**oh, and for the record, the person of whom I was speaking to, yea, total spammer, and ya,I hold a grudge against them too ;)

I understand that you want to have a firmer abdomen, but because you heard that target-training doesn't work, you have neglected it altogether, yes? I think that is a confused approach.

My advice would be to add an aggressive ab routine to your regular work-outs three times a week and see what happens. You will definitely have some positive results. Even if it's not complete ab fat reduction, over time things will tighten up. Check YouTube for videos of ab exercises you can do if you have to, and clean up your eating a bit so that you treat yourself maybe once per week to "junk food". Your body will change with some attention to those two areas.

I see why you say what you say. I only said what I said because you made a statement and really didn't voice your mind to back it up. Now that you have I understand why you feel the way you do and respect how you feel as well. Thanks for not blowing up and giving me a few reasons as to why you said what you said :)

I've been drinking 10 cups of water a day as well as watching what I eat, but I'm noticing that it has been harder for me to lose weight, and have also at some points gain weight. Could this be because of the water?

No. Water will not make you gain weight. Water has no calories, no fat, no carbs, no protein, no nothing. It is absolutely and 100% impossible for water to cause you to gain weight simply by drinking it.

ok. the only reason i'm asking is because sometimes it feels like my stomach is full when i drink a lot of water and that it may slick out more. also when I urinate, the scale shows that I lose up to 1 pound, even if it doesn't seem like it.

Water weighs something. A gallon of water weighs 8 lbs.

So it makes sense that if you drink a bottle of water, the weight of that water will be in your stomach. It makes sense that if you pee a pint of water, the weight of that water will no longer be in your bladder. But the weight of the water has little to do with the weight of your BODY.

And yes, if you fill your stomach, it might stick out more. But again, that doesn't mean you're fatter. It means you have something in your stomach.
