Weight-Loss Canned fruit vs. fresh fruit?

My gut instinct is that fresh fruit is better than canned fruit, since canned fruit is generally canned in some sort of syrup. Is canned fruit to be avoided? I ask because I love peaches but I have a terrible time getting fresh ones home (or from home to work) without bruising/battering them. Also, sometimes they're just not quite ripe and I'm not a big fan of crunchy peaches! Does draining the liquid and rinsing the peach flesh with water help at all?
 
Fresh fruit is better but if you are trying to lose weight you should keep fruit intake low. Too much fructose(the sugar in fruit) slows down fat loss and can interfere with thyroid function. Berries are best as they are low glycemic and have high levels of antioxidants.
