Weight-Loss Canned fruit vs fresh fruit

My gut instinct is that fresh fruit is better than canned fruit, since canned fruit is generally canned in some sort of syrup. Is canned fruit to be avoided? I ask because I love peaches but I have a terrible time getting fresh ones home (or from home to work) without bruising/battering them. Also, sometimes they're just not quite ripe and I'm not a big fan of crunchy peaches! Does draining the liquid and rinsing the peach flesh with water help at all?

Fresh fruit is always the first choice. 2nd choice would be frozen.

Your instinct is right. I believe canned fruit has too much sugar and you can't really rinse it way. It also has preservatives.

Fresh fruit is always better but there are preservative free canned fruits on the market, I know Del Monte makes at least one and I've seen "boutique" overpriced organic stuff at Whole Foods. A little sugar never killed anyone so if you find one you like in a light syrup your fine. I eat the Del Monte grapefruit cups all the time, I figure I'm bound to consume some preservatives no matter what since I can't eat clean and natural 100% of the time so it might as well be while I'm eating fruit.

Fresh fruit. Frozen is decent, too. I particularly love frozen blueberries, peaches, pineapple, honeydew, and strawberries. In that order.

People who can eat frozen red grapes disgust me. I'm just sayin'.

frozen fruit has to be defrosted for me to find it palatable but the texture on it changes somewhat.. Peaches stay good frozen but some berries, especially strawberries tend to get mushy...

Some canned fruit is packed in water if you can find it- pineapple isn't bad that way but fresh tends to taste better to me...

I should probably eat more berries than I do. My fruit selections tend to be limited to apples, peaches, bananas, pineapple and oranges (in that order). I do like strawberries but I never really dug blueberries/raspberries/blackberries except in muffins/preserves. The only one of those I can see myself buying frozen are peaches and strawberries. Though there is a certain humor to the idea of a frozen orange. I don't think that would work very well. ;)

Defrosting before trying to eat does seem appropriate.

Nono, eat frozen. Tasty and refreshing, and with a lovely consistency. It's the closest thing to ice cream/frozen yogurt I let myself get away with on a clean diet. Particularly excellent with a nice spinach omelette, I find. I can't stand what happens to the texture when you defrost. Not that this is any sort of a guarantee that you won't prefer it your way. :p

This is definitely weird, but what I do is give it a good licking and then let it sit for a couple minutes. This takes the "hurt my teef" edge off it without sacrificing the cold chewy goodness.

I blend in frozen blueberries to thicken up my protein shakes and I've used peaches for the vanilla protein, good stuff.

Canned fruits have way to many preservatives and lots and lots of sugar due to the syrup incorporated in the can...so yeah it might cost a little more but fresh fruits is definitely the way to go.

Fresh fruit only. Same with veges. Only alternative would be frozen.

Way too many additives in anything in a can.

To add onto what everyone else is saying, fresh fruit is definitely the way to go, but if you can go organic fresh, do that as it is even better

Frozen veges r better as they pick them when they r ripe and freeze but the "fresh section " they pick the vegetable when it isnt ripe and when it goes to the grocery store it looks ripe. I would say either grow it or buy frozen vegetables. More nutrient dense. Also buy frozen vegetables the real thing no additives or anything.

There is no doubt about it that fresh fruit is always preferable than canned or frozen fruit. Peach, Apple and Banana is the most healthy fruits for our health. Thank you.

There ARE some canned fruits that are canned in water instead of syrup. You just have to look on the label! If possible, fresh fruit is probably still better nutrition-wise and taste-wise.
