So, yeah, now that I'm eating better I rediscovered fruit and how good it tastes. Can you eat too much of it?

just my two cents but I think the only way you could have too much is if you were really limited on the calories. also if your a diabetic. Think fruit is a good thing overall

fruit has a lot of natural sugar in it - so just watch your dental hygiene after eating fruit... :) (my brother, years ago ended up with many cavities from his passion for peaches... :)

Calories in Fruit!

Eating fruit though healthy still are calories so if you consume more than you burn off you will gain weight. Eating more fruit and vegetables is an excellent habit to start but they still are calories. If you are just eating fruit in one sitting you are just consuming carbohydrates that is simple sugar whick you might feel hungry 30 minutes later. A tips is to mix some protein with your fruit to help slow down the digestion to keep you fuller for longer for better weight loss than ever before.

The point of eating more fruit is a substitute for what you would normally eat, hence the notion of losing weight if you eat lots of fruit. However, you can have too much of anything and it will be detrimental, so only eat what you need. :)

hi
I am on the Tony Fergusson Diet and my diet only allows 2 serves of friut a day, as fruit contributes to calories that need to be burned off. The diet allows unlimited vege's each day.. so maybe you should try finding a vegetable that you like as much as fruit? Carrots dipped in light cream cheese is a suggested snack on my diet, or grilled thick tomato slices are divine!

forgot to also metion... the diet allows UNLIMITED diet jelly (must be diet!) each day. It tastes just as good as the full-sugar jelly, and assists with sugar cravings. I know its not as nutritionally good as fruit, but maybe you should have your 2 serves of fruit a day, and top up the emptiness with the diet jelly?? anyway just a couple of suggestions for you

Yeah, if you check out my diary, you'll see that I consume probably around 5-8 servings of veggies a day.

Some calories are good value! What I mean is that, nutrient dense foods like good fresh fruit has so much to offer your body in terms of health benefits, that they should almost not count. Ok, maybe thats taking it too far, calories are still calories - but in this case, they are calories well spent.

The 'authorities' here presently recommend that I should aim to eat five portions of fresh fruit and veg per day - and I think thats quite sensible (although what constitutes a 'portion' isnt always clear).

I was reading a website recently about Carbs and GI, and it was pointed out that some fruits had surprisingly high GI rates - but it was recommended that this was ignored, because of all of the other benefits of fruit.

Finally, on another fitness website, I saw the suggestion that snacking on fruit was always permissable - I like that idea. Can you eat too much fruit? I imagine so, I did read somewhere that too much fructose could somehow lead to excess body fat, but it was emphasised that it would consumption of a lot of fruit to do that.

Wow. I am so glad I have found this thread. I have a problem that I love food and eat too much of it so I was going to try substituting Fruit to at least have a healthier diet. Luckily I find that The Tony Fergusson diet limits fruit intake to 2 servings a day but allows unlimited vegetables.

Whew that was close. I was going to eat loads of Apples, Oranges, Bannanas, Pineapple, Watermelon, Rock Melon, Strawberries and Mangoes. Rather I have taken on this advice and eat almost nothing but Veggies. Mainly Potatoes which are my favourite. I reckon I eat about 3 - 4 Kgs of Potatoes every day. Funnily enough, Im not losing weight but at least I didnt have to eat all that bad fruit.

I like the point that fruit is a good substitute. I'm going to try to start replacing some of my not so healthy snacking with snacking on fruit.

I eat a lot of fruit as I really love it. I have always wondered tho too if i should cut down to loose weight, but i just like it too much, especially in the summer, and also after swimming i need something refreshing. i have tried to cut down/stop eating it but i find it frustrating. Idealy for long term i want to include lots of fruit in my diet...as you need the vitamins anyway i think...but if i did cut down/cut it out i would prob loose weight. gah.

You can have fruits of course, they contain much vitamins but there are fruits that are high in calories as well. For those with high blood sugar, these fruits should also be taken in moderation. Eat greens as well - vegetables.

TOO MUCH FRUIT!! never only if you are a diabetic even then you can still have most fruit don't get scared of by the "sugar" content that's only the good sugar that our body does need. all fruits are high in different minerals ect.. your body thrives on digesting the healthy foods anyway. don't for get to try and get physical 15 to 60 mins daily 15 minimum :) So go crazy . Good luck with your new healthy lifestyle. best wishes

Fruit does not make you fat and it isn't bad for you. Yes it has sugar, but it is natural sugar and this is offset by the minerals (and fiber) that it contains. Fruits and vegetables are the foundation to any weight loss regimen as well as a healthy lifestyle. Add in an exercise regimen and you are good to go.

Fruits are good source of vitamins and minerals and are a readily available source. A fruit will boost you instantly. It is something which can quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger at the same time. Fruits are guardian angels for all the busy bees out there, who have no time to even have their breakfast.so,I eat a lot of fruits as I really love it....

thanks to all.....
