Weight-Loss Can someone please tell me some good snacks

Weight-Loss
snacks for on the road?

A lot of the times I end up on the road somewhere so I miss my meal, what non-refridgerated snacks can I carry with me for use when the bloodsugar runs low? Thanks.

snacks

Hi Mike,

I keep meal replacement bars handy. examples: Zone bar - Balance bar - Cliff bars These are my favorites, usually around 200-250 cals and 10-16g protien.
also fruit - bananas are great but go bad faster than apples.
I hope this helps.

granola bars have always been very good to me - I also buy the small boxes of raisins and stick a few in my backpack for at school... hmm... as far as for a whole meal on the run, if you know ahead of time you could make a peanut butter sandwich on wheat or something similar that doesn't need to be refridgerated... everything that the others have said is great advice too!!!

I go with 130 calorie Fig nutrigrain bars for the road they are a good snack and fill me up. Plus it makes me feel like Im having a cookie.

Popcorn

I go with a bag of popcorn. I don't know the brand; it only has 110 calories for the whole bag. So If I'm going to be gone most of the day I munch on it all day.
When I started my diet 3 months ago, I could not stand the taste. It's funny how your tastes change as you eat more healthy.

chip

yes, you are correct! Who would have ever thought that I would have cravings for "salad" and fruits"? When this happened the first time it shocked the bejeezes out of me I tell you!!

low cal snacks

(I posted this in my diary too)

crap =P it is so hard not to snack around 2:00 for me... I usually have lunch around noon, and dinner around 7:30 - and that is a long time to go with only one snack - which I usually try to save until about 4:30/5:00... I have a natural break between classes at 2 however, and today ended up eating some chips a friend brought in... I almost considered skipping my trail mix snack - but to make it another 2 hours until dinner will not be good b/c i'll want to eat everything in site... bleh.

What are some ways that you guys hold back cravings? Do you have any suggestions? I could snack at 2 and again at 4:30 if I had something really small both times... does anyone have any snacks that are 100 cals or less, that are really filling? (and easy to carry around all day!)

I agree our tastes definitely change! I have always loved eggnog and the other day I drank some and with just one sip it made me feel sick. Too thick and sweet! I try to keep something in the car all the time just in case. In addition to what everyone else has mentioned I also go for dried fruit and some beef sticks. In a ziplock back they will stay for a long time! Also, always keep an extra bottle of water in the car!

If you are close to a refrig during the day you can get some yogurt. I purch a big tub of light and lively FF straw yogurt and Vanilla yogurt and I can have 1 cup which seems to be a lot for 110 cal and it is good for just about anything that ails you .

Snacks????

WHat are some good in between meal snacks. I am a fruit person but I have learned that too much fruit can give me too much sugar.

I need a good snack for after dinner (dinner is between 6-7pm)

You can always go w/ veggies!! Baby carrots are very good for you and easy to take w/you if you go somewhere.

but there is also those 100 cal packs

You are right, I eat plenty of veggies as it is. many are low in carbs even if you eat a lot. Thanks. I like regular carrots. Rinse them and take off that first skin layer and they are great. that is a great late snack for me. thanks

Motts and a few other companies make single serve apple sauce containers, the strawberry and blueberry are fabulous.. gives you that touch of sweetness without any added sugar.. and only 50 calories...

Yogurt is always good.

Oatmeal as a late night snack

high fiber cereal is good any time of day.

Pretzels or my personal favorite, whole grain goldfish crackers, portioned out.

babybel cheese rounds or other cheeses - portioned out...

I love goat cheese spread on high fiber crackers like ry krisps or wasa crackers.

I don't really snack myself, I just eat alot of veggies and lean meats...

But don't forget about POPCORN!
