Can Someone Help? I'm Confused!

Hey everyone. I know that you can plateau and all, but I was wondering if you can get stuck at a certain number all the time. I lose weight pretty steadily, but for some reason I can't seem to get below 160lbs. Every time I get to 160, I'll then go back up and then a few days later go back down but never below. I've tried changing up my diet and also my exercise routine, but nothing seems to work. Is my body just wanting to stay at this weight? Im also wondering if I do get below 160 will it then start dropping faster again? Its fustrating because I am doing everything right. Im only 5'2" so its not like Im trying to lose weight that I don't need to. I'm trying to get down to 120-130lbs. Please let me know if you have any advice or if you've experience this. TIA.

I plateaued for the better part of November, December, and January.

I finally did a 'eat anything you want' week to freak out my body and then went back to my diet and that seemed to jumpstart me, I lost 10 pounds since February 1st. Maybe your body is just used to your diet and exercise and just needs to be shaken up a bit.

I'm the same!

I'm the same shortyg. I've seemed to plateau around 250lbs and just can't get below it. I'm going to just try and push through with some grit and determination. I was thinking of increasing my gym efforts and maybe switch diet completely.

I am kinda stuck though so any help from out there would be appreciated.

WEIGHT TRAIN. If you are too embarrassed to do it at a gym, see if you have any friends with a home gym. Muscle needs lots of energy to maintain.

Thanks for the responses. I'm already weight training about 3 times a week. I know muscle weighs more than fat, but I would think I would still be losing eventually here. My clothes also are still fitting the same. I woke up this morning and still 160.5 grrr.... I'd love to just see 159 or something, that would be nice. Im thinking of taking the day off from the gym, maybe it will help some. Is it true that your muscles and such swell up from working out? What can I do about that? I already drink a lot of water. I know some people have said to take a day or two off from working out, but I feel like if I do I won't lose any weight those days or feel like it will hinder my results, am I just weird thinking that.

I've heard from a lot of people that switching up your calorie intake tends to help. Hypothetically, if you eat 1800 calories as a rule to lose weight, try upping it to 2100 for a few days and then back down to 1800. Those are just random numbers I picked but apparently, your body gets used to your intake and adjusts to it which causes the plateau but if you up your calories you can trick your body into burning more calories again and you should lose weight.

Hopefully Steve or Leigh will jump in and explain it better :)

Yes, change your calorie intake...I know it's going to freak you out but seriously, your body has gotten used to everything you're doing so you have to change. Eat more, take a 2 day diet break...something to make your body say 'hey, what's she doing?'

Also, you need to give your body a break from exercising. A continual 7 day routine is just going to wear you out, your body needs a break. I exercise 5 days a week and rest the other two---and it doesn't have to be consecutive days either...3 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, etc...

Chances are its your diet. List in detail you normal workout routine and your daily diet and caloric intake. Also list how long you have been trying to lose fat.

Mix It Up!

Plateaus can be very frustrating!!! I've hit many in my efforts to lose weight. I think like all the other postings - it's about mixing it up a bit. Just like in any fitness routine, your body gets used to what you are doing, so it is important to change it up every so often. For me, I fall into the trap of eating the same foods (it's easier to stay on track for my diet!).

So don't give up! Try some different foods or your eating times, try mixing up your exercise (e.g if you work out - try increasing the level of resistance on your cardio machine or weight training)

For me, I was never able to get below 145. I tried a different diet (LA Weight Loss) Despite the 20/20 that has everyone up in arms - it worked for me. It was a different approach that "shocked" my system and for the first time - I was able to reach my goal weight of 130 and keep off the weight for about a year now.

High Intensity Interval Training

Are you doing and high intensity interval training? If not, that will really give your body a shock.

Also you can try and do five minutes on a bike, five on a stair stepper, five on an eliptical. That will keep your body guessing.

As the others said, mix up your food intake. Don't do the same thing over and over again.

If you can try a circuit training course. The best thing you can do is mix your cardio with your strenght training.

And you should throw away the scale. They are useless. Focus on the way your clothes are fitting and use your measurements as guides. That is a much better tool and will be less frustrating.

Good Luck!
