Can I get bulky

prety much a myth
anyone can bulk up ... as long as you have patience, knowledge and determination .. then bulking will happen.

fill your brain with all the info as possible on how to bulk... and it will come.

Give me 1 person as proof plz.
A before / after pic of a person who was a REAL ectomorph (long/very fine female-ish bone structure, skin over bone, etc - so not just a thin person who just doens't eat enough) who turned into a 'bulky person' (without steroids - although it's prolly still not possible even with).

Stop trying to convince people that it is possible. No matter how much i'd like to believe it... I'm afraid it is not. It is possible for them to look a bit better, but they likely will never get close to a normal male person who does even 5% of what the ectomorph does... blame nature.

well you cannot change genetics, but you can pack on lots of muscle. it may be more difficult for an ectomorph, but if you are eating enough, you should be able to put on some good size. however, you cant change your bone structure. therefore, you can gain mass, but if you are an ectomoprh you may be limited by your frame.

wow BD, that's pretty harsh.

I think skinny guys can indeed put on a good amount of mass...but you have to work hard at it, and will just about have to forcefeed yourself 7 times a day to keep the calories high enough.

will you ever be a heavyweight, 235lb bodybuilder look like Lee Priest...no. But that doesn't mean that you can't be a 200lb lightweight. (I know we aren't focused on bodybuilding, but for all intents and purposes, talking about building a He-Man body falls more into bodybuilding than simple fitness or weight training)

i've seen some ppl who were skinny farts like me and grew to huge proportions. i was 125lbs 5% bodyfat with 12" arms when i started lifting and the best i got up to was 180lbs 10% bodyfat with 15" arms. that was 6 years ago and i ended up losing just about all those gains but i'm back at it. now had i kept gaining in those last 6 years i might be pretty darn thick by now

hey, i can dream :p :p

agree with malkore.
anybody can pack on muscle, as long as you educate yourself and try hard.

check that out and realize its possible.

I've seen the site. Now if I were only half of what he is in the 'before' pics I'd jump through the roof of happiness. But no, that guy just has good genes. He's a black person in the first place, and let's not lie about it: most black people have much more muscular bodies than white people.
But anyway, he might have a rather small 'frame', but look at his arms: that dude is not an ectomorph... an ectomorph wouldn't even get where he is in the 'before' pic...

And sorry that I sound so harsh or rude, it's just that I've had to hear so much bullsh*t from non-ectomorphs saying that how it is possible as long as you eat and live perfectly and work hard for it. God I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately in life, not everything depends on how hard you want it and how much you work for it. For some things in life, you just need plain old luck. With your genes.

Abear: I admire you for your discipline. But I won't lie about it: I've seen your pics too, and I was not too impressed. Your leggs seemed massive, but you seemed to have the same problem I have to cope with; your upper body (chest in particular) just doesn't seem to grow... But those two pics I saw aren't enough to judge it.

Anyway, I've browsed through dozens of national and international amateur bodybuilding / fitness fora, and everywhere I encountered the same situation... 'normal people' encouraging the ectomorphs that it is possible to grow as big as them... but out of the dozens of situations, I have never seen one succeed... not hard to draw the conclusion: after a while they all just give up because it is not possible.

But like I said in an old post of mine: if I compare myself to myself a year ago or so, then yes, I can see change, and yes, I'm pleased with it. But what will always remain a fact is that I'll turn green of jealousy when comparing myself with others who do less effort and have incomparibly much more results than myself.

I could go on for hours on the subject btw =)

no problem bro, honesty is the best policy. 15" arms with a 40" chest on a 180lb body is not impressive. but to come from 12" arms with a 34" chest on a 125lb body is something i'm proud of. ;)

had i not screwed up where would i be now? i dont know but i do know i will go further than i did before and since i messed up once and learned from it, i wont make the same mistake twice.

and yea, about anthony ellis. so said it took him only 12 weeks to go from skinny to big. but what puzzles me is all these years later he still looks the same. if you can make those big gains in a matter of weeks, just imagine what he should have done over the last few years.

i still believe if you can eat enough to get fat, then you can eat enough to gain muscle.

have you ever tried eat ridiculous amounts of food, while lifting?
im talking about 5000cal ..
there have been ecto's who couldnt gain anything .. they would have to eat insane amounts.

but im not arguing with you ...
genes do play a role in all this, but you can still get to a certain point with determination .... the genes will only limit you later on... like malkore said, you can put on muscle ... just not come out to be a 300lbs bodybuilder.
anyways
cya

dude...

actually bd ur wrong.

i used to be 6'1 and 139 lbs now im 6'4 190 lbs and about 6-8% fat and this is me in my slim stage, i used to be about 215lbs 14% fat.

it just takes a long time, lots of food and a very dedicated and very patient workout rouitine

every1 dat has something to say about genes playing a role in my getting bulky id like to say that my father was skinny like i am at my age but now he has a gut, but big biscepts. But, he didnt workout half as much as i do. i am seeing results in my body toning up but not getting bigger. I have an older brother that has been working out about a year longer than i have (i have been working out for about a year now) and he is in great shape and very bulky. Now to restate my question. Can i get bulky with a ridiculous amount of eating and working out?

mike when u say it just takes a long time, lots of food and a very dedicated and very patient workout rouitine

well...

well i think ur looking for body building advice, not weight training.

but to answer ur question, it will take you about 8 months, ur basically building a new body (hence body building)

the foods are mainly lots of carbohydrates, lots of protein, lots of juice, milk, vegetables, fruit grains and a good serving of fat (like nuts, not ice cream) and drink plenty of water. but don't start loadiong the food on right away, gradually increase the food, if u were to one start eating like a 200lb person u would become a fat load, so gradually increase the food. as for a diet plan, i say just try stuffand see what works, but just eat a lot of the foods i mentioned.

for working out, for some reason i got a feeling you're going in the wrong direction, i got a feeling you work out your biceps and pecs almost every day...

so... try this...

chest monday -dumbell press, incline dumbell, three sets of push ups

back and biceps wed - lateral pull down, row, seated hammer curls, three sets of chin ups

shoulders and tri's friday- shoulder press, anterior raises, tricep cable pull down, three sets of tri dips

saturday legs- (because ur body building you can do machines and im not sure ur safe enough to use free weights with ur legs) leg press, quad extension, hamstring extension

do abs and lower back every other day

this is the only body building routine i have ever done, i did it when i was injured and unable to work out the way i normally do...strength, speed, flexible

be patient and remember that if u want to get a LOT bigger it will require a lot of time, stick to the routine i told u, this way u will remain in proportion, it also worked for me and i am naturally a tall skinny dude

just remember tho, guys like u and me, tall and skinny, will lose the bulk very quickly so u gotta stick wiht it

good luck and remember the most important thing is to stay smart and safe...

http://www.exrx.net/Lists/WtMale.html this has a guide to all the exercises i talk about

Its great to see people in this thread talking about carbs. I'm only just seeing the error of my ways, I never got enough carbs before.
Everyone told me to have 5 chicken breasts a day when I started training. Now Im not saying chicken isnt good, hell, it has an awesome amount of protein in it but lets not forget it doesnt have any carbs at all!
Carbs are very important, and everyone knows protein is too. Add up what you get of both and make sure its enough.
Bare in mind you'll get used to eating and you'll need a lot more when you start training.

I think the bottom line is, if you train there is much more demand on your body and it will change to meet this. Muscle will grow and youll look better. The good thing about being skinny is you might never need to cut, your'll have a good health ripped look.

Well, either I am the only very special / unlucky ectomorph, or other people who claim to be ectomorphs aren't. Because from my own experience I can say that 'just eating loads' lead only to more calories turned into fat in the wrong parts of my body. Yes, I've tried eating the perfect amount of protein, carbs and fat, drink more than enough of water, and train three times a week. But no, my muscles didn't grow, I just got fatter. Until other people started to notice too... then I realised I should stop before it was too late... it prolly is too late already, as I'll never lose the extra fat around my waist and my *ss that I gained during that period of excessive eating... think my body prefers to break down muscle tissue before using the stored fat...

My opinion still is: if you don't get fat from eating loads of food, then just eat as much as you can and grow ffs.

GUnit: I wrote better english when I went to my first year in college here in Belgium than you do now being American... better spend some time learning how to spell instead of working out -_-

Bulking up

to tell yu the truth...i didnt bother to read all the threads bcoz they took 4ever :D but anyways, im a new comer to this forum but i wanna say that it is possible for a skinny guy to bulk up. in sixth grade, i used to weigh 75 lbs and 4 yrs later, ya im only 130lbs but i used to weigh about 160. juss to get fatter, eat nothing but fatty stuff...eat tons of chips and that junk but if yu wanna bcome stronger, then try working out and dedicate yourself to it. Also NEVER stick to the same routine because your body gets used to it. When i first started working out, i was barely able to do the bar. Now, weighing at 130 lbs i can max about 200 benching. bcoming fat and then burning it off tends to help. Also, getting fat helped me grow i guess. I used to b 5''1 but now im somewhere around 5''10 or sumthing like that. You juss gotta remember to DEDICATE YOURSELF

heres the way i see it:

i dont know you, never seen you before, but even if i had, i still would have no way of telling you if you will get huge or not. but i can tell you that you will see improvement if you train hard. why not just take pride in training hard, and in whatever results it brings (sometimes you might suprise yourself). that way, any positive result will be a success (as it should be).

It seems like everytime I try and bulk, I end up losing crazy weight and getting ripped. But everytime I try and bulk I learn something new. On this last 3 month bulking phase I realized I'm still not getting enough calories. I took in about 4000 calories a day. For my next 3 month bulking phase I'm gonna shoot for 5500 calories a day. I will get big. I will never be Jay Cutler but at my height and current stature I'm already starting to scare women, small children and a lot of guys under 6 feet tall.
I can't wait to see my results in the next 3 months. I will try and remember to post my current results when I get home later this week.
