Can I be obese while looking fine?

Hey,
Today I got a new scale which measures body fat percentage and I got pretty terrified. I never considered myself to be overweight. Actually I’ve been always quite skinny and fit, but I have neglected my body in previous years. In college I gained 45 pounds which I know is a lot but I never got to the point of being visibly big. Now I’m 21 years old, 5.8 and a half, and around 165 pounds. I know that’s quite a lot and I should weigh much less but still I feel like I look okay clothed, nobody never told me I looked overweight, if someone says something about my appearance, it’s that I have a normal frame. But today I experienced a shock when my new scale showed that I have a 35 % fat in my body which is considered to be obese. I would never even imagine I could be near obesity. Is it possible to wear an M/L size, look normal and be obese?

Sorry if there are any language errors, I’m not a native speaker.

yes, it means you are low in muscle, and may also have low bone density, however it important to point out that the bodyfat readings on scales are very inaccurate and should only be used to track trends. They should also be used at the same time of day each time and under the same conditions. eg. in the morning after going to the bathroom but before breakfast. More accurate methods of measuring body fat % is calipers or a DEXA scan.
