Can Anyone Tell Me Exactly What I Should Do?? [Amateur At Exercising]

I'm 20, and really skinny, lanky, bony, etc. I don't have the money to join a gym, so I can't use that kind of equipment to help. Can someone tell me exactly what I can do to change my body? I'm not looking to be bulky, I just want my body to be toned, and gain some muscle all around. So, hopefully someone can let me know the things I need to do. Thanks.

Eddie, I'll be honest, you can build a little bit of muscle with bodyweight, but not a lot, and probably not as much as you'd like to build, even if you don't want to be "bulky." I'll note here that you say you want to be "toned," which is a subjective term. Subjectivity doesn't make attainable goals. Furthermore, we have no idea what your starting point is, other than that you're less "toned" than you aspire towards. Think about it, if I came along and said "I just want to get fitter, what do I need to do?" people wouldn't be able to give a good answer because they wouldn't have a precise understanding of what my exact goal is, nor would they have a basis to get me from point A to point B.

Typically, when people say they want to get "toned," they mean they want a combination of hypertrophy and fat loss. As I've said, you probably can't get a lot of hypertrophy out of bodyweight exercises. That's just the reality of the situation. As for fat loss, as a beginner you may be able to get this while achieving what little hypertrophy you can get out of bodyweight training, but realistically fat loss and hypertrophy are two opposing goals, and there's no sure-fire way of getting both together. You may need to focus on building muscle for a period of time, then losing fat for a period of time.

Sorry to be Sir Buzzkillington, but the reality is that for body composition goals, bodyweight training is inefficient, and even if there were a good way to get to where you're trying to go with bodyweight training, we don't have a specific starting point and specific goal to work with.
