I am a female, 21 years of age and weight 17 stone 8lbs (248 pounds) and I am 5ft 5. I have been on a diet for three months and lost two stone so far (yey) however this last week I haven't lost a pound. Which is unusual I am absolutely miserable because my head is totally in it. I thought because I am still so over weight i tried changing my diet, cut out carbs and did walking. Still nothing. Do you think it could be because my time of month is due (sorry)

If you can, please help me :(

TOM (time of month) can easily make weight loss grind to a halt. We get bloated and that is extra water that we are carrying round which is heavy...

Do not let it upset you... If we get upset we can start to think that there is no point in being good so we might as well stop trying to lose weight...

Keep on being good and recognise it as being perfectly normal. I know that I have read that people actually burn more calories when they exercise during TOM than otherwise so try to look at it as a weight loss opportunity...

Some years ago I took my weight down from 21 stone to 9 stone (I am 5ft3) - and saw it happen month after month... I remember complaining about how I had to get all my weight loss done in about half the month... I may even spot places where I grumbled about it...

Remember that when you get on the scales you see the weight of all of you - your skin, muscle, bones, water, food / drink recently consumed and water being retained... You are trying to lose the fat - and the good work that you do is still accomplishing that - just if there is extra water the scales may go up and hide the fat reduction... At the end of your period that will go down naturally.

We also retain water if we eat too much sodium (salt) and indeed if we do not drink enough water...

at first consult your doctor. sometime you can think like that but i think that it may be due to the non effective diet plan. so try some healthy meal and doing exercise also. it will help you a lot.

If prior the most recent week the OP lost 28 pounds over 2 months - they are not on an ineffective diet plan.

i cant say out of my own experience, and dont know what diet plan you follow. its hard to get rid of those extra pounds, and its getting really frustrating. but you have to stay positive and motivated. remember to drink say 8glasses of water a day, cut out any sodas. if you like alcohol, cut everything, but enjoy whiskey. but most important thing, you have to exercise daily, 30-45min walking will help lots. but keep your eyes on the price and stay focus!!!!

You are doing amazing! I would however recommend that you stay focused on a different goal - to lose body fat and to be a healthier person. Your weight is an indicator but it shouldn't be the end goal. Your weight will fluctuate no doubt, depending on many variables already mentioned by Omega. If you stick to a meted that works, and it seems like yours does, the results will invariably come. Well done on your progress.
