I have tried googling for an ACCURATE value of the amount of calories in RAW French Beans. Some of the values that I have found must be grossly inaccurate.

1. Will someone please tell me of a website that has this information ?
2. Is there a website that lists down accurate calorie values of foods without having to pay membership fees first ?

Sincere thanks.

I couldn't find a different listing for "French" green beans but for raw green beans it's 17 calories, 4 carbs, 1 sugar, 3 sodium, and 1 protein for 1/2 cup.

When the web fails you there are other methods. I own and use a "Food Counter", it's a book that has just about everything in the world, food wise, listed in it. It cost $20.00, really never goes out of date, they just add more items to it. What's nice about it is it also has most major chain restaurant's listed, so you know what you are eating if you eat out. I purchase a new one about every 5 years, I figure it's worth $ 4 a year to own it.

go to nutritiondata.com or

French beans and green beans are really the same thing, like aubergines and eggplant are the same thing -just regional differences in names...

Thank you both. I tried to go to the usda link but it would not open.

To show you why I am confused, I will give you an example. According to Google images, French beans seem to be EXACTLY the same as Green Beans. The nutritiondata.com website has BOTH these beans listed as having different calorie values per 100 grams.
If you type in Frech beans in the Search box and select the entry called
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Beans, french, mature seeds, raw

ON the left hand size there is a drop down menu where you can select cals for 100 grams.
french beans, Raw mature seeds
100 grams = 343 cals

And do the same again for "green beans". Select the entry called
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Beans, snap, green, raw

The data is as follows:
Raw (snap) green beans
100 grams = 31 cals

Can anyone please explain why the different calorie values ?
I am also puzzled why they include SNAP in brackets. Does this mean that green beans have yet another name of snap beans or snap green beans ???

Thank you.

"Snap" beans is actually related to the sound that is made when you prepare them for cooking. When you break them into smaller pieces they "snap". It's an older term and a bit archaic but still used.

Raw (snap) green beans

in case you are still interested, or for any future googler:

raw mature seeds: the key is the "mature", and it's only the beans ( ), not its green long "shell" ( )

After those beans are cooked (the 343 cal ones) they'll contain much more water, however that will be still more than the raw snap green beans (due it's only the seeds!)
