On my treadmill i bought it at Walmart for about $200 it just has time, speed, and calories burned i've been using it lately and feel great when i run on it but i run on it for about 20 mins at about a 4 or 5 speed with about 1 or 2 1 minute walking but after my workout it says i only burn 200 calories throughout the workout that can't be right can it?

I'm not sure....I would walk/jog for 20 min's at 3 mph to burn 200 cals.

This actually does sound right – depending on how much you currently weigh.

Don’t let this be something that discourages you.

Believe me, even though it’s “only 200 calorie” this will add up. And with proper adherence, that 200 might soon become 600.

Don’t let numbers get you down. You know what you need to do –

yep. it's right. when I work out I get about the same numbers.

depressing I know especially that's about 2 pieces of toast. :-/

Yes, its correct. The thing is tho, exercising on a regular basis will also increase your overall metabolism, and not just while you're working out. So you will burn more calories 24x7.

Running on Treadmill

both, calories are of course soooo important!! :D but the length of time is important to. You need at least 30mins aerobics a few times a week for fat loss i think.
Another question about the treadmill...if ur walking on the treadmill at 3.5miles per hour for 30mins...do u burn more calories if u run at the same speed for 30mins? Or is walking and running the same at the same speeds? I sweat more when i run, but the treadmill cant tell the difference so it says the same calories.

Does a person need to focus on calories burned or the amount of time spent doing the exercise?

Actually, what you want to focus on is reaching and maintaining your 'target heart rate' for cardiovascular activity. You can determine this through online calculators, just google it.

the way it was explained to me is that for the first 20-30 minutes of a workout, you really only burn the calories already in your bloodstream, but then after that you switch to the fat reserves, so regardless of what exercise you're doing, you need to be doing it for *at least* 20 minutes at a stretch, and the longer the better.

I remember when I first started working out, I figured doing 10 minutes biking and 10 minutes resting was just as good as doing 30 mins at a time, and didn't get anywhere with it. Heh, lesson learned.

That sounds about right, my wife moans about tthat too, i can burn about 800 walking 4mph with inclines on the traeadmill for an hour, but i am about 250 and male. You should be glad, that probably means you are not that heave and have a shorter way to your goal. Stick with it.

if the treadmill doesn't ask for your weight inpute.. it cannot be accurate. My treadmill doesn't. But when I was in Israel I used the gym on the kibbutz and it asked for my weight. I did the same speed and same incline both places... and the treadmill that asked for my weight said I burned approx 230 cal at 6.5 km for a 1/2 hr... and my treadmill says I burn 171 cal in 30 min at 6.5 km.

The one that asked for my weight is more accurate ofcourse.
