calorie burning foods

I am trying to verify something I was told recently: "when we eat celery, more calories are used to consume it than are gained from it". Is this true?
Any help on this subject is would be great.

Its a question not even worth worrying about. I don't know the answer but the amount of calories needed to burn it are too few to waste any time on the question.

It's more important to eat food that is lower in calories while being of high nutrition value.

I agree, it doesn't matter because celery tastes like a$$... The only way to make celery taste good is to put a load of peanut butter on there, or some type of soft cheese.

Between the chewing of the celery, and the actual TEF (thermic effect of food) from digestion. I am sure the 5 calories in a small stick of celery is used...

but again, you're stuck eating celery... blah

Apparently it's true but that's not important when you count calories. When you count calories, the energy that it takes to digest the food (and do other things, like walk to the kitchen to get the food) is already included in the equation. So no, celery isn't magic- it's just a very low calorie food.

I'm not disputing that celery is good for you here, but I've looked it up on the kind of source I trust online (there's a lot of crap- no pun intended- online about medicine/ health case). This is what I came up with, and it pans the entire idea of colon cleansing:

Also, the whole "burns more calories than it has" stuff was because someone didn't understand the difference between calories and Calories... when we eat 10 Calories that's actually 10 kilocalories, or 1000 little c calories. So the whole calorie burning aspect of celery is entirely a myth.

I too await Chef's input on this though :D

I juice my celery everyday for the sodium. (My diet is low in salt) All veggies are high in nutrition and low in calories, that's why you can't go wrong. I eat 12-16 servings of plants a day. But instead of concentrating on eating things with negative calorie output, it's easier to set a limit every meal on your acidic foods, (meat, grains, dairy) and fill the rest of your hunger with veggies.

Weight loss becomes super-easy if you include the following top calorie burning foods in your diet. Take full advantage of the energy load these natural ingredients will offer to your organism. Make sure you pamper your senses with the most delicious and healthy recipes.
Chicken Breast
Pumpkin
Kidney Beans
Tuna
Seafood

There's no such stuff as calorie burning food. The stuff you listed is tasty (mostly), and including it in your diet is a good idea, but there is nothing 'calorie burning' about them.

Although celery contains a high level of calcium, magnesium, potassium and active compounds in it which ultimately helps to burn more calorie than you digest.

What planet am I on? What's a "calorie burning food?"

All foods ingested burn calories.

That is a complete myth. EVERYTHING HAS CALORIES. The only thing that burns calories when you consume it is ice water because it causes your bodies internal temp. to drop and force your metabolism to heat yourself back to normal.

Loosing weight is not that easy, it requires a lot of research, hardwork and motivation. I suggest you all to check out this list of [removed]. It will surely help you out.

Well, first i would like to clear out that it is no such thing as negative calories (energy). If you think so, you probably sleept to much at your physics class.

However if your body is able to burn more energy then the item contains is another question. I read a study about this a few years ago and it is true that in some cases this is possible. But remember we are talking about very few calories here, not kcal (1kcal = 1 kilo calories = 1000 calories = 4185 joules). So its negligible and wont change anything. Go up and down the stairs once and you have burned more energy.

I love this myth, I hear it all the time! ha Eating celery is a great snack when on a diet, but you still need to incorporate exercise, eating celery won't burn the calories you'll need to lose the weight! Thanks for clarifying that one :)

Hi friends i m sharing some myths related to Weight-loss and Nutrition Myths

Diet Myths

Myth: Fad diets work for permanent weight loss.

Fact: Fad diets are not the best way to lose weight and keep it off. Fad diets often promise quick weight loss or tell you to cut certain foods out of your diet. You may lose weight at first on one of these diets. But diets that strictly limit calories or food choices are hard to follow. Most people quickly get tired of them and regain any lost weight.

Fad diets may be unhealthy because they may not provide all of the nutrients your body needs. Also, losing weight at a very rapid rate (more than 3 pounds a week after the first couple of weeks) may increase your risk for developing gallstones (clusters of solid material in the gallbladder that can be painful). Diets that provide less than 800 calories per day also could result in heart rhythm abnormalities, which can be fatal.

Research suggests that losing 1/2 to 2 pounds a week by making healthy food choices, eating moderate portions, and building physical activity into your daily life is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. By adopting healthy eating and physical activity habits, you may also lower your risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Myth: High-protein/low-carbohydrate diets are a healthy way to lose weight.

Fact: The long-term health effects of a high-protein/low-carbohydrate diet are unknown. But getting most of your daily calories from high-protein foods like meat, eggs, and cheese is not a balanced eating plan. You may be eating too much fat and cholesterol, which may raise heart disease risk. You may be eating too few fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which may lead to constipation due to lack of dietary fiber. Following a high-protein/low-carbohydrate diet may also make you feel nauseous, tired, and weak.

hope this will be helpful for you guys[/quote]
