Hello all,

I am a 19 year old male, weighing 190lbs. I would really like to lose around 15lbs. by the beginning of November. I have calculated my BMR several times with various programs, the mean of which seemed to be around 2100 ( give or take a few, rather closer to 2070ish). Nonetheless, I have already been trying to lose weight for a few days, fluctuating between 1500-1700 calorie range, as well as jogging for at least 30 minutes a day. I was just wondering what perhaps would be the best calorie intake for my weight loss goal and date? Some more experienced answers rather than others punching the stats into BMR calculators would be nice.

Thanks a bunch! :)

Hello, actually going by that number would be your best bet as far as how many calories you need. How are you calculating your daily intake? You might checkout fitday.com, its an online tool that counts calories for you and will give you how many cals you need to be in the deficit to reach your goal.

I hope this is what you were looking for. Honeslty loosing weight is a numbers game, you have to burn more than you are taking in... but I'm sure you already knew that. :)

if your around that age and that weight you were close to what I was a year ago, if you do it right for 15lbs it shouldnt take you longer than 30-45 days to lose that type of weight. If you eat about 1500 good clean calories per day mainly veggies and are able to do about an hour of consistant cardio your goal will be pretty easy.

Thanks a bunch all! As for how I got those numbers, I Googled "BMR calculator" and just ran my stats through a few of them. Yeah, I usually eat really healthy, however, with moving and the previous ending of a semester I tended to eat a little too much easy-to-prepare pasta-esque foods, ha. So, I guess 1,500-1,700 should be a pretty easy soaring calorie range? Or?

Thanks again

If you want to estimate how long it would take to burn fat, consider the following:

1lb of fat = 3500 calories

so a daily calorie deficit of 500 cals is 1lb fat loss per week.

Wouldn't it be nice if it were that simple...

it's really not as cut and dried as that... a person MIGHT lose 1lb of fat, but that 1lb loss of fat, might or might not show up in the scale...

Yes, that's why I used the word estimate and not calculate.

Actually, it really is that simple. Losing weight is simple math. That's why diet fads always come back to counting calories. A person with a NORMAL FUNCTIONING metabolism, not talking about people with thyroid problems, improperly functioning organs, etc, will lose 1 pound once a deficit of 3500 calories is reached. Just because someone is excercising and may be gaining muscle at the same time they are losing fat, does not mean that they have not lost weight...

even with the whole low carb diet, they say that the main reason people on a low carb diet lose weight is because they are eating less calories. Higher carb = higher calories. It's not some miracle of the low carb diet.

anyways, sorry for the rant, feeling very passionate today. :gnorsi:
