Hi

I love drinking diet energy drinks which are very high in caffeine. They really help when on a diet for immediate boosts of 'energy' before a cardio program or long term 'energy' to kep me going through the day.

The high caffeine worries me though and I can often feel myself de-hydrated. Part of this is from a liver problem too.

So can anyone recommend a low calorie 'energy' giving drink?

Thanks

Drink LOTS of water. Gallons if you have to. I drink the sugar-free, lo-carb Rockstars. The whole 16oz can is only 20 calories. I am a MAJOR caffience addict and am not willing to give them up. Hell would have to freeze over and a whole lot of pigs would have to fly to before that would happen. I just make sure I drink TONS of water during the day. And I mean tons lol... I have a 32oz water bottle that I fill up at least 3-4 times a day, and that's just during an 8 hour shift at work! If it's a really bad day, I'll have a Rockstar in the morning, and one in the afternoon lol. I didn't give them up when I started dieting and I've lost a lot of weight.

(And before anyone wants to get on their high horse and lecture me about how bad they are, I'm already well aware of that. I'm not a child, so don't talk to me like I'm one!)

While in Chicago for a long weekend trip, I visited several tea shops - it was nice to see that loose leaf teas are gaining in popularity at least in some parts of the U.S. There's definitely a lot yet to be done in terms of general education about the quality of different leaves - I will write another article about this, hopefully I will have some physical samples soon. I came back with what feels like countless new things to write about, but for the moment let's just dispell the various rumors about caffeine in tea.

I have never been a fan of those energy drinks. If you really read the % DV's on the label it is pretty shocking. I don't see how those can be healthy at all, especially if you are trying to lose weight. I would really try to find an alternative.

I am quite a coffee drinker myself. I love it, but I try to limit myself. I drink it more because I love the taste than for the caffeine. You could look at tea.

I would not try to be too dependent on chemical means to get your energy. If you get a good nights sleep, eat well, and exercise you shouldn't really be starved for energy, so you may want to re-evaluate your daily routine and/or diet.

If you find yourself needing the occasional energy boost, as we all do, look into some different kinds of snacks. Fruits and nuts are great for an energy boost. I love trail mixes with different kinds of dried fruits and nuts.

I would really look to foods as an energy source as opposed to something you drink out of a can. My two cents worth. Take it for what it is.

There are B-Vitamins which can help you in the form of pills and an energy drink in the UK (Lucosade Hydration). Vitamin B aids the body in energy use.

I used to take a pill called Red Kooga, it was not caffiene but something beginning with g (Guaranan or something like that), I found that helped and was not as jittery as caffiene but be aware that its still an energy boost which just like caffiene I am sure could become relied upon.

Tea is an idea (as mentioned above) but the deal with tea is that its caffiene which gives it its energy boosting qualities!

Caffeine is a drug. It is able and addictive. The three better caffeine sources are coffee, cola, and chocolate. Many humans who alcohol decaf coffees, espressos, and teas, are either clumsy or afraid to feel the after-effects of a consistently caffeinated drink, but still adore the taste.
