Burning the Fat.

Heyy! I'm Brookelynn.
I'm 5'2" and weigh 132 lbs. I don't appear fat, but I do have certain areas of my body that I am uncomfortable about, such as my inner thighs and lower abs. Right now, I'm trying to work off some of my thighs and stomach, and shed some pounds, possibly down to 120. I'm currently doing 20 minutes on the stairmaster a day, and then usually a 20 minute bikeride or dancing. I'm also consuming about 1000-1500 calories aday. So I have a few questions.

1- If I do the same thing everyday will it not allow me to lose weight?
2- What are some other good fat burning excersises?
3- Will a constant cardio excersise everyday help burn the fat?

Thanks so much!!

1. As long as you are burning more than you consume, you will lose weight. Thats plain physics. I do think 1000 cals a day is a bit low. You dont want to drop your cals too low or your metabolism will counter by slowing down. Hence, you will burn less.

2. Anything that signifigantly raises your heart rate can be a good fat burning exercise. The real question is, what do you enjoy doing? What will keep you motivated to go? If thats the stairmaster, then do the stairmaster. Weight training is also vital to fat loss. The more lean muscle mass you have, the more calories your body will require for daily function. (metabolism boost)

3. Yes, but i think 20 minutes a day is best for weight maintenance. I think 30 minutes of cardio should be the bare minimum, if your ultimate goal is losing fat. So you should try to comfortably work up the duration of your exercise session.

As matt said, I would highly reccommend starting some body resistant / weight lifting exercises. There are a ton of stuff you can do straight at home in order to do this, or you can go at your local gym. You are probably at or below your set point, so losing more weight (or toning up) would be extremly difficult without it.

What are good strength excersises that will help me tone up like you both are talking about? I don't want to lift weight machines, but rather do free weights and the weight of my body to help tone myself. What are good strength excersises that will help my thighs and abs?

Though weigh training will increase the overall amount of calories your body will burn its important to remember that you cannot "spot reduce" fat from your body. Meaning, working your thighs will not remove the fat from your thighs. Your body burns fat from all areas.
I think calisthenics, i.e. pushups, situps, pullups, squats, lunges, would be a good place to start. You can incorporate free weights into many calishenic exercises. As a man, ive never had any desire to work my thighs, lol, so i cant help you there.

If you don't do squats and lunges then you aren't a man;)

One you can't spot reduce, you need to work full body. This isn't about gaining muscle, it is about protecting it while in a deficit and increasing your metabolism.
