Bulking during Ramadan?

Well, Ramadan is starting this thursday. And for those of you not familiar with it, its a month of fasting where i can't eat/drink from sunrise to sunset, smoke, sex, have bad thoughts, etc.
Which means I'll only have around 2 meals a day, one waking up 4:30 in the morning for a large breakfast and then my second meal at sunset.

I was really hoping to start to slowly bulk and continue gaining muscle, i've noticed some little changes and how my strength has increased. It's going to be really hard to eat enough to avoid losing weight. Last year when i was still a fatty i ate 2 huge meals and still lost weight at the end of the month ( 6-7 lbs ).

Now that I am more fit, i don't eat as much and get full faster.

And I still am planning on doing my 2-3 days of HITT and 3 days of my FBW...

So I guess I gotta just do my best and try my best to eat alot of clean food..and hope i don't lose too much weight because i don't want to see w/e muscle I gained go to wastr:mad:

I would eat slow carbs before sunrise, so you maintain energy as long as possible, and thereby not burning any muscles. I know that some long-distance skiers use extremely long carb-chains, but dont know where you can get them.

One of my mates used to say that being muslim in Denmark(my home country) during the ramadan was great because the sun almost almost never shone:) Until his Iman told him that even if it was dark outside the sun still shone and he could look in the paper for the set and rise....

I posted several times in another thread, with another member that had a simular problem, I will search for it, and see if I can locate it for the Brotha.

Become nocturnal..

Bulking isn't about 'gaining weight'. You need to pay attention to your bf%, or the mirror and measurements. Because lbs are a bad indicator of progress, bulking or cutting.

Become nocturnal :yelrotflmao:. But i understand what your saying, problem is i don't have a bf measuring device so i go off weight. I try to roughly estimate the amount of fat im gaining by paying attention how much im gaining and how fast.

Phate you with me here in the thread? LOL

Let me find that link reference SoccerGod, I believe this is who it was.....or we can start from scratch what ever you prefer.

Well today was my FBW and I was wondering weather or not I should do my workout before my big meal or just wait and do it afterward even though i wouldnt have enough time to complete the entire workout.

I decided to just eat a small meal, wait 30 minutes, workout, then finish the rest of my meal.

Though im still curious because i thought fat would be a easier fuel source than muscle tissue...

I would suggest a split in your situation. Eat about an hour before and then right after.......this would be fine.

Muscle is just more nutrient dense, but with weight training it gives the body a reason to keep it, and to look to fat for a fuel source, though it will still use muscle as a source in a deficit diet........the ratio mix is variable...but weight training will definately reduce the amount used but not eliminate it.

Though your situation is unique and not optimal, what REALLY MATTERS in the end of the day, is whether your in deficit or surplus. If you aiming for a surplus in two meals between fasting, though not optimal you will be okay......just be sure to have WATER with the meals and eat good ratios.....with the two meals that you get.

If muscle is used in a calorie deficit how in the world would it get rid of the fat?
Or does it get rid of fat AND muscle at the same time?

Think of a calorie deficit as: The body eating itself for energy....because this is really what its doing, when it runs out of fuel sources. When and why it chooses one or the other (say without cardio, just weight training) I cant answer. I just know it IS BOTH. Both are used as fuel sources in a deficit diet and when weight training is applied, it reduces the amount of muscle normally lost, because of the stumulus of needing to keep as much as it can, and I assume because of this it will revert to the fat source more freely at times because of the use of the muscles during weight training--at least this makes sense to me.

It definetly makes sense to me, thanks for replying.

Anything else I can do for you?
