My cofounders and I are trying to put together a startup and we've shrunken an extensive list to out final three ideas. We would love to get feedback on which one you all find the best in terms of a real need and interest for it. Please feel free to tear apart and criticize any that you don't think would have any market or customers. The more feedback and opinions you have the better! The other point is that we might not address small details and issues that might arise yet, we first care most about solving a problem that people have and really care about.
#1. Our friend recently had his old-school gym lock broken into and his things stolen. Meanwhile a common gym problem (myself very included) is to end your workout a little before it's done. I'll skip that last lap or not bother with those last two sets.
Our idea is to create a smart lock for your gym locker, that only opens once you finish burning a certain amount of calories or your entire workout. Plenty of technology exists on your smartphone or wearable tech that tracks your workout. That would in-theory sync to your smartlock, and once you've reached that amount, you would be able to unlock it and get your stuff. You would be able to initially set how many emergency openings you get a month i.e. if you injure yourself or need to leave early. So have a better quality lock to protect your belongings and ensure that you finish a quality workout that you set for yourself.
#2. I (like many people) struggle with my sleep. Sometimes tough to get a full-nights sleep that helps to rejuvenate my energy for the next day. I also drink a protein shake at night before I go to bed. Idea number two would be to use that protein shake to help me sleep much better, and be more well-rested the next day.
The product would be a protein powder / shake that includes melatonin and / or other sleep-aids. This works along with the idea that warm milk already is one of the best natural ways to help you fall asleep. So add protein to your diet, while helping you be more well-rested and have more energy during the day. Not to mention being more well-rested and having more energy will allow you to then further exercise better.
#3. The third idea runs similar to Matchup.io which is a platform for people with fitness trackers to challenge each other, compete head-to-head, collect achievements, win prizes and make friends. However this website / service would be much more money / gambling focused. The idea would be for a site where you challenge others to certain workout / exercise achievements (i.e. lose x amount of weight, finish a triathlon first, bench this amount, etc.) and you would stake a certain amount of money. Almost like a fantasy league / gamble. You would have to agree to terms and conditions of not cheating with water weight, false information, etc. otherwise being banned, losing your winnings, etc. There is also the idea of making it much more charity oriented, with the winner earning his money back and the losers having their money go to charity instead.
Anyway, really look forward to your feedback!
