Sport Brown Rice

If you were cutting would you take brown rice out of your diet? Assuming that you eat a small portion of rice and it still goes into your daily caloric needs, would you completely take it out due to its glycemic index?

Brown rice is fine and far better then white rice. There is no reason to cut it out so long as it fits into your overall calorie needs. AKA fits into your macro breakdown.

The GI rating once combined with say a complete protein will be negligible to say the least. No need to worry about that unless your eating it alone with no other food.

Gotcha, thanks for the info.

I might of got this wrong but brown rice is just as good as white rice. They are just made from different colour grain. The thing that makes brown rice better is if it is whole grain. Whole grain is better then white rice but brown rice is just a different colour grain.

The process called "Milling" is what creates the obvious difference between brown and white rice. It is the milling process itself that removes the husk from the grain and turns the brown rice to white. This not only affects the digestion process of the rice but also the nutritional value.

Brown rice is just a less molested grain, it still has the shell with all the fiber and nutrients. White rice has the little shell stripped off, so you are denying yourself all the benefits of brown rice.

What about this brown rice called organic Basmati (SP) Brown Rice? I picked up 1 pd the other day. I came home and realize it might be bad?

I don't know the ingredients. I picked it up in the organic section (just the grain).

I usually broil it for 15-20 minutes, then let it stand for 30-50 minutes.

It doesn't contain the nutritional information somewhere on the label? If its made in the bakery over there then that would explain it.

It's a pump. You put a bag under it, and press this button and it feeds the rice into it. Kinda like that coffee bean machine. All it has is the name and the amount of calories. I think it was like 110 per cup or something like that.

Yeah those despencers will Generally have the nutritional info on the front. If you care enough to write them down next time your there. Because I really can't tell you what it is without this type info ;).

Maybe post this question in the nutrition section. Might be someone els who knows about this specific type of rice.

Cool thanks. I guess I'll look at the contents next time at the store.

Yea, that site provided seems to be the exact same thing as what I'm describing. So, I think it's a pretty good matchup.
