Make ice cream from breast milk, says PETA

September 26, 2008 12:01am

PEOPLE for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has urged US ice cream makers Ben & Jerry's Homemade to replace cow's milk in ice cream products with breast milk.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 per cent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the animal rights group said

PETA officials say a move to breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their calves on factory farms and benefit human health.

"The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," PETA spokeswoman Tracy Reiman said.

"Everyone knows that the breast is best, so, Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favour by making the switch to breast milk."

Ben & Jerry's said: "We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child."

Ok so milking cows is bad and hurts the cow.. but milking mothers is OK?

PETA -People for Eating Tasty Animals... :D

and because I was curious

1 cup of breast milk = 172 calories

it's possible for a mother to transmit various STDs to a child via breast milk - so i'd think it would get awfully expensive to test all the milk for the ice cream.

:puke:

If they do that, I'll never touch B+J's again.....and how are they gonna do that anyway? Will there be farms with lactating women hooked up to breast pumps?

Protecting animals is all nice and well, but sometimes I think the PETA peeps have a few loose screws....*shakes head*

I believe the logic is that women can give informed consent, whereas cows can't.

Dairy cows have been so bred to overproduce that an unmilked dairy cow, even one nursing her own calf, is going to be one miserable, mastitis-ridden beastie.

People, on the other hand, often don't let down well for a pump, and rarely produce significantly more milk than their own nurslings need. So first we'd need to implement some selective breeding programs...

I keep thinging of that song... "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard"....

I'll have a thickshake please!!!

sounds nasty, but when you think about it... Its like, we drink cow breast milk; its made for cows and needs to be homogenized to break down the fats. If you recognize all of the other foods that contain calcium, it makes you wonder why we bother producing our milk from cows who's methane gas is a major cause of global warming.
If our gov. provided women with more information on there bodys; how there milk is a important, more things might be possible ie; breastmilk testing facilities(companys) run by women for women and children. So many women would be able to find employment.
We do have breast milk donation centers all over the US, but they are ~only~ donation centers.

This has probably been one of the most nastiest thing I have ever seen in a long time. I mean honestly. How many people in here have actually tasted human milk lately. ANYONE?

Yes Ice Cream is definitely needed, and we need it to make the world go round and round
