Hi all! Any ideas for breakfast besides egg/yoghurt? I get really hungry if that's all I eat in the morning, it's what makes me reach for that 'cookie.'
On the other hand, how do I stomach vegetables and fish/chicken/meat in the morning? Anyone else in the same dilemma?

Heya Nicky

Are you talking while on plan or maintenance?

On plan I used to sometimes use my cheese allowance for breakfast to make cappucino cheesecakes - you crush up a couple of crackers and mix with some sprite zero, some cinnamon and mould it into a muffin tin like a base and bake for 10 or so minutes. Then mix your ricotta allowance with some coffee and cinnamon and spoon it into the tray - bake for 10 mins and then put in the fridge overnight to set. These were always so yummy with a black coffee in the morning and I'de just have some grilled mushrooms and tomato also.

Another thing you could do is have mozzarella and tomato slices on crackers and pop under the grill - then some grilled mushies or something on the side? (I love my mushrooms so I can just eat a whole heap of them!)

That along with the yoghurt and egg option was all I really did to change up my breakfasts while on plan...some idea's for maintenance are;

Omelette with some ham/cheese for extra protein to keep you fuller for longer...you could also add mushrooms, tomatoes, spring onion to make it bigger...

Fried egg with ham/lean bacon...

Cottage cheese/ricotta or phili on rice cakes/crackers with sliced tomato..

Stuffed mushrooms/tomatoes or capsicum (pretty much whatever vegetables you want and then mozzarella on the top, pop it under the grill...

Thats all I can think of at the moment without adding in non coheny foods. Once I have gotten down a little bit (im on maintenance and trying to loose about 2kgs that Ive gained the past few weeks) I am going to try out a few teaspoons of either special K or muesli with my yoghurt and fruit to try and keep me fuller for longer.

Goodluck on your journey and just keep trying as hard as you can =o)

Whole grain cereals are an excellent way to start the day off without a lot of preparation time involved. As an alternative to cereals loaded with sugar, whole grain cereals contain very little sugar. This makes them ideal options for people who are watching blood glucose levels, as these cereals provide a nice range of vitamins and nutrients while not adding a lot of carbohydrates and cholesterol to the meal. For fast breakfast ideas, combine the whole grain cereal with freshly squeezed juice and perhaps some fresh blueberries.

Oatmeal may be considered old fashioned by some, but the fact is there are few healthy breakfast ideas that are better sources of fiber. Hot oatmeal is filling, contains important nutrients, and is less likely to cause a sugar spike that is followed by a mid morning crash, assuming that a lot of sugar is not added to the dish. If you really need to sweeten the oatmeal a little, toss in some slices of banana. The added potassium will be great for your mood and does not significantly increase the chances of a sugar spike.

If there is a little time to prepare the meal, there are a number of great healthy breakfast recipes. One idea is to go with scrambled tofu instead of eggs. This is especially important if there is a need to watch cholesterol intake. Toss in some chopped onions, red and green bell peppers, a little soy sauce, and seasonings such as pepper and garlic powder. When served with a slice of toasted whole grain bread, this breakfast is hot, filling, and provides a lot of energy for that morning commute.

There are healthy breakfast ideas that can be prepared the night before. One example is fruit salad. Simple cut some of your favorite fruits into sections and combine into a tasty mixture. Cantaloupe, honeydew melon, strawberries, orange sections and grapes work very well. For more colors and texture, you can also slice apples and bananas for addition just before having breakfast. Be sure to coat the apple and banana slices with lemon juice or some other citrus juice, as this will prevent them from turning overnight. Chill all the cut fruits overnight and enjoy with plain yogurt and fresh juice in the morning.

For people who must have eggs first thing in the morning, there is a simple breakfast idea that still allows you to cut down on the cholesterol. Use the eggs whites combined with onions, bell peppers and broccoli florets that are chopped finely to create a scrambled egg dish. Serve with a slice of toasted whole grain bread. Healthy breakfast ideas of this type allow you to still enjoy your favorite breakfast staple while making it more heart healthy.

One of the fastest healthy breakfast ideas is to have a few tablespoons of cottage cheese and some type of fruit. Tossing a few blueberries into a small amount of small or large curd cottage cheese is quick, easy, and loaded with antioxidants. Use low fat cottage cheese if you are watching your fat intake.

The main purpose of having breakfast is to provide the body with energy to begin the day. Regardless of your current level of health, eating some type of breakfast is important to your overall well being. Even if you have very little time in the morning, you can take advantage of quick and easy healthy breakfast ideas and get your day off to a great start.

Every one have to eat good and healthy breakfast. Breakfast is very helpful to get fitness. Don't eat those pasties that come in the boxes. These are loaded with sugar. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and it should not be ignored/missed.

I have grapefruit juice, Meusli and unsweetened almond milk. About 350 calories, very low sugar and I have lots of morning energy.

Hi swimalot. That sounds like a great breakfast & I have something similar on maintenance these days. This breakfast thread is in the Cohen's sub-section of the WLF and grapefruit juice, Muesli and almond milk are not allowed on the program.
As I said I now have something very similar for my breakfast & find it sustains me well until lunchtime. It is something to keep in mind for Cohenites when they get to their goal weight. I have low-fat yoghurt, fresh or stewed fruit, gluten-free muesli & a sprinkle of a low-fat seed & nut mix. It's yummy & I am having no side effects from it.
I wish you well with your weight-loss journey. It's lovely feeling that we are all on the same journey just taking different paths :)
Cheers, Cate

Program? Oh sorry I thought it was general breakfast advice the OP was asking for, my bad. I know I am not in maintenance mode though, I have eaten this while losing a lot of weight.
