Hi,

Thought some of you may be interested in this report from which magazine.
I ,like many others probably thought cereals were a good way to lose weight and i often munch away on Cheerios or something similar . However all may not be as it seems , a bowwl of cereal can have the same sugar content as a jam donut .
Hope this is of some use .

this is nothing new. looking at the label of any cereal box pretty much confirms even the "healthy" ones are loaded with sugar. Not to mention that looking at any GI chart pretty much puts all cereals on the same level as white breads in the way your body treats them..

Yup. Get into the habit of reading the labels of everything you buy. The law requires that ingredients be listed in order of most to least. So if "sugar" is in the first 3 or 4
ingredients, then you know that it's a sugar-heavy item.

Also watch out for things that MEAN sugar, but don't say sugar. Any type of syrup, fructose, dextrose, sucrose ... those all mean sugar.

Pretty much anything you buy in a package these days has added sugar.

for cereal i usually have kellogs all-bran which surprisingly is not considered as one of the healthy ones on this list but i buy it because it has about 10g of fiber for every 30g portion and for me its all about the fiber......so for breakfast i usually either have that or plain oatmeal and add in 2tbs natural wheat bran.

some new info to me, thanks for posting.
(I wish I was still living in the UK... Wheatabix is hard to find across the pond).

good to know there are some cereals "in the green". didn't realise Cheerios was way up there in sugar tho.

guess I'll compare nutrition facts again next I go shopping. see how Shredded Wheat compares to other stuff I've been eating.

I used to go with all those unhealthy sugary cereals. But I read this article about breakfast and what choices are healthy, Now I try to go with eggs and oatmeal, or some fruit.
