Sport Breakfast? and fuit question

Sport Fitness
Hi guys

I eat half a cup of oats in the morning (porridge) for breakfast, i want to start eliminating carbs from my diet (not for good just for a few weeks to see weight loss) what are some nutritious alternative breakfasts, apart from eggs?

Also i read somewhere its best to eat fruit before midday because of the sugar content, i always thought eating as much fruit as possible was best?

any help much appreciated! thanks :)

1st question.. Whats your intake now of carbs, and how much of it are you going to eliminate?

Breakfast for most people is usually egg whites.. boiled mainly.. can be put into omelettes.. Also in the Healthy Recipes there is a whole bunch of good foods breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes. Oats are real good in the morn.. Just make sure it isn't the instant junk. People will usually add to there oatmeal.. peanut butter.. protein powder.. honey.. Just do it in moderations and make sure you are keeping track of your daily caloric intake.

Getting carb strict isn't the best way to go. You are better off just making sure to have protein every meal, no carb/fruit snacks, and keep simple/complex carbs to first two-three meals only and do the rest of day/night carbs in veggies. So pro/carb for day, pro/fat at night.

This however is up to change depending on your lifting routine as you do want a higher glycemic carb/protein combo post workout for muscle repair. So keep that in mind, you need carbs to maintain/build muscle.

i lost and kept off 32 lbs doing that. i still only hve carbs with dinner.

i hve yogurt and coffee for breakfast. big green salad with protein for lunch. snack of apple or kiwis.

regular dinner that i cook for the family. just smallish.

my advice is to eliminate bad carbs from the diet, and focus your non-veggie carbs to the meals immediately surrounding your workouts.
I workout in the evening, so I have a little oatmeal in the am, and then usually rice pre-workout, and dextrose post workout.

fruit isn't bad, but veggies are 'better' in that they are more fiber rich, and not very calorie dense. the sugar in fruit isn't the worst, but bananas are a little high in sugar for a cutting diet IMO. I'm a big fan of berries due to convenience, and the anti-oxidants in their skins (esp. blueberries!)

every meal, except post workout, should contain at least one serving of veggies. when cutting, more veggies help keep you full, without really increasing calories (1 slice of wheat bread vs. 2 whole cups of broccoli...which is more filling?)

if you dip below 100g of carbs a day (for the avg person), you will feel the effects - sluggishness, hard to concentrate, etc. This is why low carb is out, and usually replaced by carb-cycling, or just keeping a 'reasonable' amount of carbs in the diet to keep decent energy levels, but not too much...so the body will still tap into fat for some of its energy (particularly during aerobic exercise).

that's a really neat site. thanks a bunch :D
