What is the best type of bread to get? I've tried 12 grain whole wheat, just plain whole wheat, and then today I bought 7 grain healthy choice bread and it said on the packaging that "just as much dietary fiber as whole wheat!". So I assumed that bread wasn't even wheat bread even though the color said it was.. It had more dietary fiber than any other bread there though, so I got it anyway.

Anyway, what's the best bread to get, and what's the deal with the healthy choice bread?

100% whole wheat.

Read the ingredients, Most bread i read has a hell of allot of crap added to it that should not be in there.

I can not comment on that one bread as i have never seen it.

It really depends on what your want out of it.

Seeded loaf - great in fibre and vitamins, particularly vitamin e, which is essentiall for the maintanance of body cells and tissues.

wholemeal - THE KING of breads:) Contains as much as four times as much fibre, three times the zinc and almost twice as much iron than white bread, this is great for your heart.

rye - Contains little gluten, low Gi to keep you fuller for longer, best for energy.

white - Can if eaten alone send glucose into the blood as quickly as sugar, but with high protein fillings will give it more of a sustained energy release. low in fibre & iron, but fortified with b1 and calcium, best for your brain.

multigrain - Extra flavour but slightly more salt than wholemeal, one of the lowest GI's around, best for weight loss.

Just make sure to read the ingredients. Wheat does not = 100% whole wheat. Sometimes it's just colored brown. Even some 'good' wheat breads have high fructose corn syrup (that's right, I'm lookin' at you, Orowheat) high on the ingredients list.

Can anyone reccomend a brand that is pretty good overall? I try to read ingredients, but am not always sure what I should be looking for. For example, what's wrong with a little high fructose corn syrup in whole wheat bread?

Yea, my dad used to make me a loaf from scratch. While cutting, I feel that there are better alternatives to bread, so I haven't been eating it for some time now...
