OMG
well i have been thinking about it latley. I relize how much i eat of it. Like today, i had 2slices for breakfast (toast), one slice with veg soup and like one more with my super! i dont know whats wrong with me LOL! i eat soo much, some of you might not think that is alot but i do think so. Im going to cut down to about 2-3 slices tops a day. By the way it is wholegrain and whole weat so its good for me. But is it fattening? it says only 3% fat on the back but.......... i dont know, i still feel like it is fattening and some poeple say it is very. Im soo confused... Do you also eat lots of bread? its soo good tho... well with other stuff lol. N e ways.......... please let me know! thank you! :p

Fattening I think is relative compared to amount of calories consumed vs expended... If you're sitting down and eating 22 slices of 400 calorie a slice bread - then it's fattening ... if the bread fits into your calorie range, then I think it's fine... as long as you are getting protein and fats and your diet isn't overloaded with carbs..**

**non-experts opinion.

I LOVE Bread, and boy does it love me too...I definitely eat too much of it...I could eat just bread and water and I would still gain weight....

Whole grain is better then white. Check the fiber grams. I like Natures Own Whole Wheat - only 50 calories per slice and 2 g. of fiber - that is outstanding.

I am trying to limit my bread intake to about 3 slices (or less-yeah right, who am I kidding?) per day.

Good Luck!!

I agree with Mal that so long as you work it into your calories then go for it. Spend some time comparing the calories on various bread so you can pick one with the best taste for the calories.

I personally feel that the people on these forums treat bread like it's pure chocolate or something :p

4 slices of bread isn't bad at all .. it's 340Cal-12Protein-64carbs-4fats
I've eaten 4 slices of bread a day for 8 years or so, perfectly normal in these parts.

In fact, some people I know on a dutch Bodybuilding board have 12 slices a day.

Biggest problem with it really is the High GI index but meh

I see what you're saying... and yeh bread (especially the more healthy types) is not pure fat or anything, but it does have a lot of calories in it for what it is.

For example the numbers you just put; 340Cal-12Protein-64carbs-4fats. Thats 340 calories before u even spread anything on it and add the filling. It all adds up.

White bread is the worst... it's got about 100 calories a slice. And I for one absolultely LOVE a big chunk of hot crusty bread dipped in a bowl of soup... before I know where I am I've eaten loads of it. So I have to really keep an eye on what I'm doing with bread, and at the moment I've given up white completely. :(

hi all
a mate of mine wanted to lose weight not long ago and she just totally cut bread out of her diet, she lost half a stone just by doing that so i figure its worth a shot at it.... after all there are lots of alternatives to bread i intend to seriously limit how much bread i eat.

Cutting out a food group can't possibly be good for yu long term - cutting out processed bread products is wise but not all breads are evil... whole grains are good for you...

340Calories isn't a lot, besides if you put butter and turkey on it than it comes to a total of 460Calories for 4 slices of bread :)

But maybe I'm a bit biased since I'm bulking up atm :p

And you're right, you should never eat white bread, might as well eat a carboard box

Spot on! Besides bread has tons of fiber in it as well :)

Don't get me wrong I wont avoid bread like the plague, but as somebody who would normally it a lot of it, and always white, it's something I am wary of. It's not a lot of calories in the bigger picture I guess, but compared to other things that are just as filling (such as soups, etc) to me it seems a bit of a dissapointing choice.

But hey, each to their own plan right?

i too love bread. i am a carb addict. but my opinion is (not an expert) that as part of a varied diet its fine, especially the granary type and as long as its not loaded with high fat stuff. i do have a problem with the cheap(economy) nasty white stuff. it bloats me up something chronic. since i have reduced the amount i eat and varied the type - granary, pitta etc i feel much better, slim
