Sport Bread is bad?

Sport Fitness
Someone was telling today that bread is terrible for you and that wheat isn't good either...Why is bread not good for you? I'm under the assumption she's implying it makes you gain weight and is unhealthy. She also stated it's converted to sugar, but aren't all carbohydrates converted to sugar?

Basically, why is bread bad and should i just avoid it?

Is pita bread ok? I generally have chicken pita sandwiches from time to time...But, if i shouldn't eat, I'll avoid it...(I don't need bread)

I find it odd that bread would be bad for you, when Jesus and the disciples had it for last supper...I'm not really religious, but these people are basically implying God is stupid and shouldn't have had bread...He should have stuck with Ezekiel bread instead...lol

Wholemeal is good. Most whitebreads, baguettes, white pitta's, etc, lack any nutrition whatsoever. Wholemeal bread is fine in moderation, as are most natural, clean products.

On the religious aspect, 'God' tells us that this life is only a preperation for eternal life in heaven, and we should not value earthly goods, but it's also known that life is God given, and we should take care of our bodies, the Bible and all religious texts are full of contradictions and fearmongering bull****. God doesn't exist, and I wouldnt want him to exist.

Whole wheat, whole grain breads are very good. Grains and breads are one of the 4 (or 3 or 5 depending on the food guide) major food groups. Definitely whole grains are preferred over white bread for example which indeed has little nutrition. Also go for whole grain pastas and brown rice. You should be looking for whole foods over processed where possible.

Really? That was insightful, I'll just try to avoid breads for the most part but stick to wheat for when I actually do eat it.

Well it's not particularly helpful to make such generalizations - both of "bread" and "bad". It would be silly of me to suggest all cars are expensive; how much is too much? and what kind of cars? do motorcycles count?

I eat a lot of bread; I only eat the healthy kind however such as wholemeal. Be careful what you choose, no white. Nothing wrong with having it occasionaly, but I wouldn't have loafs of it every week.

In regards to the God is an idiot. I'm sure he could have used his magical powers to perform a miracle (which occurs regularly in the Bible) if the bread caused any illness. But then again, God does not exist so it's as meaningful as claiming the pink unicorn should have chosen a different colour so not to be seen by predators.

So, seriously. 2k years ago, there wasn't an abundance of food options. Also, people worked - hard labor - like 15 hours a day. AND bread was less processed, never included HFCS, etc. You can't compare then to now.

I've never heard such a thing. Wholewheat or wholemeal is fine (especially used as a complex carb pre-workout) I wouldn't eat a slice PWO or in the evening though. Stay away from anything white- it's heavily processed.

Bread is awesome. But like everything else, there are good and bad. In bodybuilding / working out, white bread is considered bad b/c it is processed a lot and quick absorbing. If you really crave for this, the ideal time is breakfast or post workout. Wheat or grain bread is better b/c of it's slow digesting property to keep you energerized the whole day and insulin level more constant.

Didn't you mean "pre" workout?

Yeah, so I was watching Gladiator and they are throwing loaves of bread to the masses before a fight in the Colliseum, and I was thinkin to myself...man I bet that's some good ****in bread.

Yeah, sorry for long delayed response but I did mean POST workout for WHITE bread as it's absorb quickly. Rest of the time in day, I'd prefer wheat bread. Nothing like Peanut butter and jelly sandwich made from wheat bread 2 hours before workout!!!... Generally, I avoid white bread but used to crave white bread a lot when I was in my 20's...

White = fast ~ think Whey protein
Wheat = slow digesting ~ think Cottage cheese / casein

BTW, I love bread and cannot function with eating at least 2 slices a day.

^^^ x2

I have two "mini bagels" things after my workout with my protein shake. I like the raisin cinnamon flavour. Yum yum. Basically any kind except whole wheat wil do.

Thinking about white bread and whey protein post-workout are basically the opposite of how you would think the rest of the day. I love it, lol :D
