Boxing!

I am going to be joining up with one of the local Boxing Gyms on Monday...I used to do boxing when i was like 16 for 1.5 years but had to pull out due to a severe ankle injury...and i have not taken back up since...since then i have gained lots of weight and lost lots of weight so i think this might be a cheap altnerative to going to the health club as boxing only costs $1.50 a week compared to $30 for the health club. Cant wait to start...has anybody else on here ever done boxing.

I've done boxercise. In case you're not familiar with it, its basically a lot of boxing training elements without the bit where someone actually hits you! lol its basically circuits of jump-rope, medicine ball excercises, bag work etc. Really good cardio. In fact, I'm going to suggest my gym starts doing it, I used to really enjoy it.

All boxing training is good for getting in shape.

i saw boxercise in the Yellowpages its run by this guy called Darren Obah who is a well known boxing professional in these parts...but i think it would be much cheaper to just go the regular boxing gym, when i went we were taught to control our punches so we didnt connect with full force which was a good thing.

i box occasionally, my dad used to be semi pro, so we sometimes take it to the bag together, an excellent way to increase speed strenth endurance and fat loss at the same time plus u'll eventually have a knock out right

i took boxing up 3 yrs ago.. i did it for a year and a half also. i weighed 165 when i started.. i dropped down to 128 :-O
boxing is a great sport to help you lose weight. its a lot of fun... you also get to unsleash your anger at the bag/person your hitting.. :-D
good luck with your training! :)

Boxing - a man's sport

My great-grandfather was the undisputed boxing champ in his neighborhood. By day, he was an old railroad man, and even into his 80s, he was still jogging around the block. When he was 85, he challenged me to an armwrestling contest when I was 15. He easily beat me, and has been my inspiration to this day (I am now 56). He had the physique of one of those old-time strongmen.

When I was a teenager, I also boxed, and could handle opponents so easily that I quickly developed a reputation. When I was 16, I could beat anyone my age, so I was eventually challenged by an army man who was 21. I lost. I wish I could have a rematch now. I can deliver bone-crushing punches to my boxing bag since I have been working out with isometrics.

It depends on the kind of person you are, really. The ones who are gentle at heart (I call them waffles :D) never seem to last. It's a great stress relief, an excellent way to get in shape, and a great feeling being confident in your ability to take care of yourself. I've been thai boxing most of my life.

You lose very quickly if you start to get angry in the ring....you win when your cool calm and collected.

True, but anger doesn't necessitate loss of control. That's rage. Besides which, that's in the ring. Bag work is a great way to get rid of some frustration. I think it's safe to say that if I didn't train as often as I do, I'd probably be a much angrier person in other areas of my life.

I think boxing is great. I used to live with my grandfather partially when I was a teen. At the time I wanted to do TKD, Karate...anything like that but we in the country. So, instead of driving an hour and a half to the city, he suggested I try the local boxing club that was only two miles from the house.

The Heath Boxing Club was great...the dad fought, the sons fought, the daughters fought, they raised fighting cocks...so it was all about the fight. :)

its called channeling ur anger.. i used my anger as motivation to get better.
hit the bag harder.. go an extra 2 rounds.. get pounded on.. get more angry.. leave with bruises and ache for 2 days go back train harder.. think about the people that made fun of me.. hit the bag harder and faster.. leave with your hands trembling for 3 hours.

this is like.. better then drugs.. lol try it sometime..

true being angry does make you hit harder...but you dont want to try and knock the opponent out with every punch....i personally dont try to get pounded on for and length of time...maybe its just me..but i find being angry more to my detriment then my advantage.

"but you dont want to try and knock the opponent out with every punch...."

did i say that?? -.- you gotta be a smart angry guy :D
