Bowflex?

Is it workth buying or you should just stick with the machines that you use right now that also work out your whole body?

Bowflex

Before you buy any piece of exercise equipment, ask yourself this simple question:

Do I see this piece of equipment at the gym or on TV.

This simple question should answer your question about what works and what is for the dreamers. Stuff you see on TV is a FAD.

That is a pretty HUGE generalization, and in the case of the Bowflex, you are incorrect. A person can get a real decent workout using one. It is a true resistance training device. If you were a powerlifter, the Bowflex would not be the right choice as it maxes out at 410 lbs. But, besides that, it is a nice piece of equipment for a home gym. Far better range of motion and smoothness than most of the Weider crap that's out there, or the home 'universal' type gyms.

Now if you're talking about the suana belts or the 967 different abdominal devises sold on TV, I'm with ya.

I'm in Too

Bowflex has been around for about 20 years. I suppose if you are seeking a giant's body to go with the pin head, free weights are a better idea.

In reference to not seeing a bowflex in a gym so it doesn't work. Not an intelligent statement. (Thats not meant as an insult its just my opinion.)

When you go to a restaurant do you see the same type of range or oven you have in your house?
When you take your clothes to the drycleaner, do they press your clothes with the same kind of Iron you use at home?

The range at your house works just fine though.. right?
And your clothes look just fine when you use one of those little hand held irons don't they?

I have a bowflex and it gives you a great workout.

The secret is in order for it to help you, you need to use it. It doesn't help you if its stuck in the corner of the garage collecting dust. (I learned that by experience)

I have not touched a free weight in over 6 years but use my Bowflex on and off. I work out chest with between 180 and 220 lbs on the bowflex 6 to 12 reps / set. Out of curiousity, I was at my sisters house and her husband has a weight room so I wanted to "test" and compare the difference. I put 185 and snapped it up a few times with ease. I put another 40 lbs on to see what 225 felt like and I put it up 8 times.
I also tried it with dumbell curls. I use between 40 and 50 lbs / pulley for curls on the BF. I grabbed 45 lb dumbells and did 10 reps of alt curls. So in comparison, I say the bowflex will indeed give you a workout similair to that you can get in a gym. If your into powerelifting it may not be the right answer, but for most everything else it will get the job done.

Just my $0.02.

My Aunt has a Bowflex and we work out on it and it is wonderful! If I had enough I would get one myself.

Go Bowflex I wish I had somewhere to put one! (and a table tennis table to lol)
