This challenge will be a little different to most challenges here, with the goal being to improve basic fitness levels through resistance training without having access to a gym or special equipment. Just your own bodyweight.

I will post a bodyweight routine which takes around 30 minutes to complete, works the whole body and can be modified for different fitness levels.
(those that read my diary will know I have been working out what the routine will be)

I will also post instructions or links showing how to do each exercise.

the aim is to be able to complete the workout 3 days per week and track improvement in each exercise during Feb starting on the first.

like any form of weight training the competition is you and your own body.

I have prepared a Google docs spreadsheet for tracking and graphs at the end of the challenge to show progress but reporting can still be done here and I will transfer the numbers over.

Wow, sign me up!!! I need to improve my strength, and bodyweight exercises are probably the simplest way of doing that. The fact that I don't know that many body weight exercises, aside from pushups and dips, is probably the reason I need to join this.

Really looking forward to this, Trusylver.

I should go ahead and sign up since I'm back in my home state and focus on exercising again. I hope more ppl can join us....

I'm signing up! My fitness level is crap and this seems a great way to improve it! Will there be a way to track it on the forum as well? Also, how long will it go for?

30 mins, 3 days a week sounds great :)

it is a 1 month challenge and can be tracked on the forum as well :)

by the end of the month you should be able to change to harder versions of some of the exercises.

I was reading your back ground. Have you given up the powerlifting and bench pressing? If not, how do you like to use body weight training as a tool compared to powerlifting?

Thoughts?
Mike

Mike, I can no longer lift competitively due to a shoulder injury, but have always used some bodyweight work in training. Bodyweight exercises are great for rehab but some can be as challenging as a weighted exercise depending on the variation used. One of my favourites is the hamstring raise (not included in the challenge) as it works the hamstrings harder than almost any weighted hamstring isolation exercise.

Did you do this for me? I have to do this. This is perfect for me. Brilliant.
Tell me do I just come to this thread to see the exercises?

ok fellow challengers, I have posted up the workout routine reporting thread and a chat thread so you can all get a look at the exercises ahead of you starting 1st of Feb.

I would love to give this a go
