i got a shock when i took a body fat test today.. my body fat was 31.2%!! gosh that's like considered obese?! im 5 feet tall and i weigh about 110pounds.. i feel so demoralized! think i've been eating too much chocolates and junk food the past year.. hence the crazy weight gain.. and the body fat as well! i remember my body fat was like around 21% two years back! =(

First off, what method did you use to measure your fat levels?

Please dont say the 'electroninc' type! If it was done professionally with fat tongs, then fair game and you know you ARE that body fat%. However, if it was electronic, dont trust it one bit. I'm just not a fan of these - this is thru personal evidence of seeing what people who have come out at one % and they've been pro tested and been 5 - 10% lower! (and in some cases higher!)

The main thing with putting on wieght in the form of fat is that you acknowledge you do have the fat - which you have. You have so many avenues available to you to combat fat loss - which one do you think is for you? Healthy eating? Exercising? Cardio? Weight training? a mixture of any? :)

Body Fat Testing methods

I'd agree that calipers are most always more accurated than bioimpedance. Keep in mind however that calipers can be as much as 10% differant too. This is a huge gap.

Also if you live in CA, WA, MA, or GA have you body fat tested the best way: "Get Tanked" with underwater weighing. Again, visit our website to find a location near you and a calander of events.

To have a % this high at this weight would mean you only have 75ibs of lean mass (muscle, bone, organs etc). I've tested 1,000's of people (hydrostatic) and never have I seen a woman (even 110ibs) only have 75ibs of lean mass. You would have to have a very extreme case of osteoporosis in order to have such low lean. How old are you? If you where in your 70's or 80's it could be possible but I'd still doubt it.

good to hear

What types of exercise are you doing? when you say everyday your exercising, sometimes is can be a bad move to do so much.. usually 3 - 4 days of a 30 - 45 min workout of some sort is good for weigth loss.

hmm i do take like one or two days off exercising each week.. recently i've been going to dance and yoga classes with my friends, so my schedule could be like this:
monday: yoga(45mins), girls hip hip(1hr)
tues: yoga(45mins), mtv(1hr)
wed: yoga(45mins), hip hip(1hr)
thurs: off
fri: yoga(45mins), mtv(1hr)
weekends i'll usually swim, run or go kayaking with my friends.. in addition i just joined a fitness club also.. which offers classes like body combat, body pump, salsa dance, pilates, hot yoga, etc.. so i'll prob can try something new each week, and also incorporate cardio and aerobics into my exercise routine..

You dont have much mass to you, only 110 pounds. Its time to start weight training to increase your lean muscle and eliminate that nasty fat.
