Body fat reduction but not weight loss

Hello - newbie here. I'm in my 30's and for much of my twenties I was about 14.5 stone (I'm about 5ft 11).

Anyway over the last few years the weight has crept up to 16 stone 7 and it was seeing some pictures which really shocked me as I had never been big before.

I have been following the promax diet (proteins shakes and about 1500 cals per day) and attended a boot camp twice a week for the last two weeks. I also do the occasionally gym session and play squash once a week.

I've not seen much 'weight loss' however I weighed myself about 2 weeks ago and it showed as 15 stone 13. I was happy but just weighed myself and I am now 16 stone but my body fat have reduced.

Sorry for asking a newbie question but why would I gain 2 pounds but my body fat reduced by about 5%> (33% to 28%) Is this good and will it stay like that - will I see weight loss too.

It really threw me but could anyone throw some advice as I cant seem to find anything online to explain it?

Muscle weighs more than fat.

How are you measuring your bodyfat? Bioelectrical impedance? Can be rather variable depending on your hydration levels.

If you crunch your numbers, then 33% of 16st7 is 76lbs of fat. 2 weeks later 28% of 15st13 is 62lbs fat. The numbers have too much variability sometimes and I think this is one of those times.

More telling is, how do your jeans fit? Better? How's the belt? Need to change hole yet?

The test my wife told me (she's 113lbs/8st1lbs) was to put your jeans on (no belt) and do up the button. Now try to wiggle them down whilst buttoned up. That'll let you know if your waist is smaller.

I weight every day had you just have to accept that your bodyweight can fluctuate based on a lot of factors. If you need to drill another hole in your jeans though, that's a pretty definate sign of success ;)
