First learned what they were back in my late teens, and I kept doing them til I was about 25 or 26. Probably 2 a year?... All sorts. Anyway, truth be told, I feel healthier, saner and smarter when I set a health challenge or goal than when I've done one of these "cleanses." Now (34 years old), I'm on the other side of the fence and won't do a cleanse, but that's because the relationship I have with my body has changed. For me, cleansing fed into my binge-purge mentality and didn't respect the time it takes for my body to actually do the work it's designed to do. Personally, they did me no good and I gave them up - the "Master cleanse" "juice fast" "diet tea cleanse" and so on.
[disclaimer] I'm just some random chick on the internet - I'm not a doctor, not a health pro - I barely know how my own body works, much less yours, so just like everything you read online, take this post with a GIANT SALT LICK

To answer your question, my DIY "outside the box cleanse" (for a groaner and lack of a better title) which I thoroughly enjoy and feel better on the completion of, is this:
- Choose 3 things to leave behind for 3 weeks. Cause I like the number 3. (ex. white sugar, white bread, beer)
- Make sure I keep my maintenence calories in mind and don't go under. Weight loss isn't the goal, just a possible side effect.
- 3 litres of water - not including tea - per day. Add a tbsp of lemon juice or ACV to each bottle of water.
- 1 cup of coffee/tea and 1 citrus fruit every morning (there's the "colon cleanse," right there. I know, ew.)
- Diet: 70% veg and fruit, 20% rice, barley, oatmeal, etc, 10% nuts, beans, tofu and lean meats. But that's just me.
- Make sure some pickled/fermented food is in my diet every day - it's ridiculously good for digestion: gherkins (sp?) and korean radish kimchi are my favourites. Likewise yogurt and honey.
- full body brush once a day - gently. Ginger, sea salt and lemon bath 3 times a week.
- gentle core exercises once a day (stretching, yoga, pilates, whatever twists you up)
- stay warm - clothing and exercises for circulation.
- walk 1/2 hour a day
And that's it. Anything on top of that is just extras. Meditate, pray, stand on your head, put together a thousand piece puzzle.
... I don't do this when I'm focusing on losing weight, although I do all of these things to some degree while I'm trying to lose weight. I guess the difference, if there is one, is intent.
For the "full body cleanse" I think you might be thinking of (and please forgive the horrible attempt at mindreading), it's actually quite risky to do a liver, colon and kidney cleanse all at the same time. Most people will advise against it, and there are a few decent resources online, but there's so much harmful and fake expertise on the interwebs that's just, "Eat nothing but apples, drink walnut hull juice and pump some coffee in your bum for 3 days and you'll feel awesome!" yanno? At the risk of sounding paternalistic, do be careful with what you put together for yourself and remember to be very gentle with your insides.
I hope you update this thread when you decide what you're going to do, and let us know how it goes. Take care! (and sorry for my long reply!)
